If you bought Premium on the JDate website, go to My Profile, then Account Settings, then Subscription, then Manage Subscription. Choose your active subscription, select Cancel Subscription, pick a reason and select Confirm Cancellation. If you bought it through the iOS or Android app, you cancel in your Apple account settings or your Google Play account instead.
The steps on the website
Take them in order.
Go to My Profile, then Account Settings, then Subscription. Open Manage Subscription and choose the subscription that is active. Select Cancel Subscription, pick the reason that fits best, and select Confirm Cancellation.
Do not stop before that last button. A man who reaches the reason screen and closes the page has not canceled anything.
What you should see afterward
JDate shows a confirmation message on screen and sends a confirmation email. Keep the email. If a charge ever appears after that, it is your proof that you canceled and when.
If neither the message nor the email shows up, assume it did not go through and check the Subscription page again.
If you subscribed in the app
A subscription bought through the iOS or Android app is not managed on the JDate website. JDate's help center says you cancel it in your Apple account settings or in your Google Play account.
You do not need the JDate app installed to do this. Apple and Google hold the billing, so a man who deleted the app months ago can still cancel from the account page on his phone. Deleting the app does not stop a subscription. It only removes the icon.
If you are not sure where you paid, look for the receipt in your email. A receipt from Apple or Google means the app route. A receipt from JDate means the website route.
What happens to your account
After you cancel, the account stays Premium until the end of the current billing period, then returns to a Basic membership. You keep the paid features you already paid for until that date.
Basic is still a working membership. You can view profiles, message members you have matched with, send a limited number of Likes each day and see a few Recommended Picks. So canceling does not end your conversations. Women you are already messaging keep talking to you.
What you lose at the end of the period is the paid extras: unlimited Likes, a bigger set of daily picks, seeing who liked you, extra match preferences and read receipts.
Why there is no refund
JDate's help center says all purchases are final and non-refundable. It adds that canceling stops future renewals but does not refund or shorten the current term.
That means canceling on day two of a long plan saves you nothing for that plan. You have paid for the term, and you get to use it. What canceling does is stop the next charge.
So the best moment to cancel is the day you buy, if you are only testing. Premium renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal first. Turn it off the same day, use the plan to the end, and it simply lapses into Basic with no further charge.
If your account was blocked
If JDate blocks an account, you do not need to go through the usual cancellation steps. The help center points to a separate article on what happens to a subscription when an account is blocked. Read that one rather than trying to cancel the normal way.
If you get an error
If the cancellation fails with an error, JDate's help center says to contact Customer Support. Take a screenshot of the error and note the date, so you can show you tried to cancel before the renewal.
Decide before you cancel
Some men cancel because the plan is not producing dates and then feel better for a week. It helps to know why. Look at the numbers over your paid weeks: how many women you liked, how many liked you back, how many replied and how many agreed to a plan.
If you got matches and no plans, the problem is usually the photos and the messages rather than the tier. a dating coach's approach is short, specific messages that move to a plan in about four to seven exchanges and end with a swapped number and a day. A man who fixes that gets more out of Basic than a careless one gets out of Premium.
Cancel if you want to stop paying. Then use the free tier properly, and come back to a paid plan only if a specific limit is holding you back.
