In Discover, tap the heart button to like someone or the dash button to pass. A connection is made when someone you liked also likes you, the same mutual-like idea most dating apps use. You can only start chatting once you are connected, new connections appear in the Connections tab, and making connections is free for all members.

Liking and passing in Discover

Discover is where you decide on people, and each person gets one of two answers from you.

  • The heart is a like.
  • The dash is a dislike, which simply means you are passing.

Tapping the heart does not open anything straight away. Your like waits for her own decision about you.

Give each person a proper look before you tap. It is easy to decide on the first photo alone and move on, and that is how men end up with connections they have no real interest in writing to.

When a connection happens

A connection needs both of you. You like her, she likes you, and Feeld connects you. It does not matter which of you tapped first.

Until then, neither of you can chat. That rule shapes everything else. The one way to say something before a connection is a Ping, which can carry a short note, and even then the chat only opens once she likes you back. For almost everyone you like, your first impression rests entirely on what she sees in Discover.

Where connections show up

New connections appear in the Connections tab. Check it often, because a connection nobody writes to goes nowhere.

It helps to think of a connection as permission to talk, not as a result. Plenty of men collect them and never turn them into anything. The number that matters is how many become conversations, and how many of those become plans.

A simple habit helps. Check the tab at a set time each day and write to new connections then, rather than letting them pile up for a week and answering all of them badly.

Free members connect too

You do not need to pay for any of this. Making connections is free for every member, so a free account can like people, connect and chat. Feeld's paid membership, Majestic, removes some limits and adds extras such as unlimited likes and seeing who liked you.

Those extras can help, but they sit on top of the basics. a dating coach's view of paid features on any app is that they multiply the results you already get, and anything multiplied by zero is still zero. Get some connections on a free account first, then decide whether the extras are worth testing.

Be choosy with the heart

It is tempting to tap the heart on nearly everyone and sort it out later. coach warns against that on any app.

His reasoning is about how apps behave. An app has every reason to notice how selective you are, and he believes it probably treats a man who likes almost everyone as less attractive. That man then gets shown to fewer of the people he actually wants. Liking fewer people, and only the ones you are genuinely keen on, works in your favor.

So read what she has written and what she says she is looking for before you decide. On an app where a connection is the only way to talk, a like you would never follow up on is wasted.

What to send once you connect

Write soon, while the connection is fresh, and keep it short.

My point is that you start reading a woman from her photos and what she wrote, before you type a word, and that your first message and the early banter carry most of your appeal. So build your opener from one specific thing she shared and give it a light, slightly playful angle. Leave her something easy to answer.

Even when a woman's page is openly flirtatious, do not open with something blunt and sexual. My warning is that plenty of men do exactly that, and it tends to turn her off. Keep some tension and let the flirting build.

From connection to date

A good chat still needs somewhere to go. coach usually moves a woman from the app to her number within four to seven messages, and each one of those moves things toward a plan. Suggest something simple and specific early rather than waiting for her to do it.

Once you have her number, a short phone or video call before you meet makes it much more likely she turns up, and turns up glad to see you. If she is firmly against a call, coach does not push it. He simply meets her.
