Feeld is a mobile-only app built around four areas: Discover, Likes, Connections and Settings. You browse in Discover and like or dislike each member. A connection forms only when two members have liked each other, and only then can you send messages. Free members can connect and chat. The paid tier, Majestic, adds extras such as seeing who liked you. What you get out of it depends mostly on how honestly you say what you want.

The four areas

Discover is where you browse members and decide. Each one gets a like or a dislike from you, and you can also send a Ping to a member you want to be sure notices you.

Likes is where you see members who Pinged or liked you. Anyone can receive Pings and read them there, but seeing who liked you is a Majestic feature.

Connections is where your conversations live. Members you have not written to yet sit at the top, and your ongoing chats sit below them. Settings holds your account options.

What you will see in Discover

Feeld is different from the mainstream apps in what it lets people put on a page. Members choose desires, relationship types, sexualities and genders. You can filter Discover by distance, age, genders and relationship types.

Filtering by desires, and by who has been online recently, is limited to the paid tier. If you do not know what a term means, tap and hold it and the app opens a short definition. Look things up instead of guessing, because a wrong guess in a first message ends the chat.

One more difference matters for a man: couples are a normal part of the app. A member can link his page with his partners in what Feeld calls a Constellation, so you will see couples as well as singles. Read how each page describes itself before you decide. Our view is that a couple is two people who are both choosing, so write to both of them as people, not to the one you fancy with the other treated as a bystander.

The two rules that shape everything

First, nobody chats until both sides have liked each other. A like you sent waits on her own decision, and many will go nowhere. That is normal, and Feeld says so itself.

Second, the first impression is almost entirely what she sees in Discover, because you cannot write to a member until you connect.

a dating coach's advice for any app applies strongly here. Be choosy with the like button. His reasoning is about how apps behave. An app has every reason to notice how selective you are. He believes it treats a man who likes almost everyone as less attractive. That man is then shown to fewer of the women he wants. A like you would never follow up on is wasted on an app where a connection is the only door.

What goes on your page

Say plainly what you are looking for and which relationship types fit. My rule is that a page attracts what it says, and Feeld takes that further than most apps because the labels are right there. A man who is vague about his intentions on this app creates exactly the confusion that gets him a quick dislike.

Feeld also has a hidden bio, a section that only the members you have already liked or Pinged can read. It is meant for a deeper, more candid view of yourself. Keep it honest, and remember it must follow the same community guidelines as the rest of your page.

You can also verify a picture. Feeld matches one of your public pictures against a live selfie and gives you a Verified badge. Its own page says verification increases trust, which is worth a lot when you are a stranger asking for a connection. It is optional and takes a few minutes.

Free or Majestic

Free members can connect, chat and link their page with partners. Majestic is Feeld's single paid tier. Its extras include seeing who liked you, unlimited likes, incognito mode and extra filters.

My view of paid features on any app is that they multiply the results you already have. A multiplier on a weak page gives you a bigger pile of nothing. Get connections on a free account first, then test Majestic for a month and drop it if your numbers do not move.

After you connect

Write soon, while the connection is fresh, and make the first message about one specific thing she shared. Keep it light and a little playful, and leave her something easy to answer.

Even when a member's page is openly flirtatious, do not open with something blunt and sexual. My warning is that many men do exactly that, and it tends to turn her off. Let the tension build instead.

Then give the conversation somewhere to go. coach moves a woman from the app to her number in four to seven messages, and each one nudges toward a plan. Suggest a simple, specific meeting early rather than waiting for her to do it. If she wants a short call first, accept, because it makes her more likely to turn up glad to see you.
