Open Discover, tap the Locations filter, pick a city from Feeld's list of popular locations, such as London, New York or Sydney, and tap Save. Discover then shows you members who are local to that city. You can only be in one location at a time, so while you are browsing somewhere else, people in your real area will not see you, and you cannot pick a place that is not on the list.

The steps

  1. Open Discover.
  2. Tap the Locations filter.
  3. Choose a city from the list of popular locations.
  4. Tap Save.

That is the whole feature. Your feed fills with people who live in the city you chose, and you like, pass and chat with them exactly as you would at home.

You are in one place at a time

This is the detail men miss, and it has a real cost.

While you are browsing London, Feeld treats you as being in London. The women near your home stop seeing you in their Discover. If you leave the filter on a city you are visiting next month and forget about it, your local feed goes quiet for weeks and you will not know why.

So treat another city as a short visit, not a setting you leave running. Browse it for a few minutes, reply to anyone worth replying to, and then switch back to where you actually live.

Only the cities on the list

You cannot type in any town you like. Feeld offers a set list of popular locations, mostly big cities, and those are the only places this filter reaches.

If your trip is to somewhere smaller, the list will not help you plan ahead. You will have to wait until you are there. It is worth knowing that before you spend an evening hunting for a setting that does not exist.

When to start looking

Start close to the trip, a few days out rather than a few weeks.

a dating coach's advice on dates booked well in advance is that you have to stay in touch between setting the plan and keeping it, and that checking in can easily come across as needy. A three-week gap between a good chat and a drink is a long time for a conversation to fade. A few days is short enough that the plan still feels fresh when you arrive.

His fix for the check-in itself is simple. When you set the date, agree on most of it and leave one or two details open, such as the exact bar or the exact time. Then your message the day before is not "are we still on?" It is the missing piece of the plan, which reads as organized rather than anxious.

Tell her you are visiting

Say plainly where you live and when you will be in her city. Put it in your first message or somewhere she will see it before she replies.

This is not only about honesty, although that matters. A woman who knows you are in town from Thursday to Sunday can decide whether she wants to see you and fit it around her week. A woman who assumes you live nearby, and then learns you are flying in, feels misled, and the chat usually ends there.

A short trip also gives you a natural reason to be direct. "I'm there for four days and I'd like to take you for a drink while I am" is not pushy. It is simply accurate.

Writing to women before you land

The rules for a good opener do not change because she is in another city. Pick one real thing from what she shared, react to it with a little humor, and leave her something easy to answer. Mention the trip once, lightly, and move on.

coach gets from a first message to a woman's number within four to seven messages, and he gets her agreeing to a plan before he asks for it. In his view a woman needs three things before she will meet: some attraction, enough comfort to trust you are a normal person, and a sense that plans are really on the table. A visit makes the third one easy, because the trip itself is the plan. Your job is the first two.

Once she has said yes to a day, move the details off the app. A number and a rough plan for Friday evening are worth more than another dozen messages about her favorite neighborhood.

Why this beats opening the dating apps after you land

Most men only open the apps once they arrive. They spend the first two evenings of a four-day trip starting conversations, and by the time anything turns into a plan, they are packing.

Browsing the city a few days ahead flips that. You arrive with one or two plans already made and the details still to settle. Then, as soon as you are home again, change your location back so the women near you can see you again.
