Boosting is a paid Luxy feature that promotes you on the Match, Search and Messages pages, so more members come across you. You start it from More, then Boosting, and it only runs once Luxy has approved your main photo. A Super Like is the pink star. It highlights you in the feed of a woman you are interested in and notifies her in real time. You can buy extra Super Likes with Coins.
How Boosting works
A Boost pushes you further forward in the places people are already looking: the Match page, the Search page and the Messages page. You find it under More, then Boosting.
There is one condition. Boosting only runs once your main photo has been approved. If you pay for a Boost and nothing seems to happen, check first that your main photo has cleared Luxy's approval.
How a Super Like works
A Super Like is aimed at one woman. You tap the pink star on someone you like, and Luxy highlights you in her feed and sends her a notification straight away. She knows, right then, that you singled her out.
If you want more of them, extra Super Likes can be bought with Coins.
When a Boost is worth it
Boosts are among the paid features most worth testing. More women seeing you is a plain gain, as long as what they see is good.
Timing matters. A Boost tends to do the most after a few days off the app, when you return with a strong page. Firing one Boost after another is a weaker habit, since back-to-back Boosts tend to reach many of the same people, so each one does less.
The best test is simple. Note how many likes and matches you get over a normal couple of days. Then try a Boost and compare. If it clearly helps, keep using it at sensible intervals. If it makes no difference, stop paying for it.
Fix your page before you Boost
A Boost is a multiplier. It multiplies whatever your page already earns. If women who come across you usually like you back, a Boost brings you more of those women. If they usually pass, a Boost just lets more women pass.
So make sure your page deserves the attention first. Lead with a sharp, well-lit photo of you alone, which is also the photo that has to clear approval. Remove any shot that lets the set down, since women tend to judge a man by the worst picture he shows. Write a few lines about yourself with at least one detail she could ask about. Then Boost.
Make sure you are around, too. A Boost that brings in likes while you are on a flight or out all weekend wastes its timing, because the women who noticed you move on before you answer. Start one when you can check the app over the next few hours and write back to anyone you match with while you are still fresh in her mind.
The trouble with Super Likes
Super Likes are the paid feature to be most careful with.
A Super Like can make you look eager. It tells a woman, before she has done anything, that you think she is special. That puts her on a pedestal from the first moment, and conversations that start that way often need more work. She may give you more attitude, and you spend your first few messages climbing back to level ground. Plenty of men do very well on dating apps without ever sending one.
When a Super Like makes sense
There is still a place for it. A Super Like makes sure one particular woman sees you, even if she would never have come across you on her own. That is the one thing it is really good for.
Save it for the rare woman you would really like to take out and suspect you would not reach any other way. If she matches with you, write a first message that is relaxed and a little playful, with no mention of the star. Treat her like any other woman you are getting to know. The Super Like got her attention. Your messages have to do the rest.
Which to use first
If you are going to spend on one of the two, start with Boosting. It works across every woman who might see you, and it does not announce to anyone that you are keen.
Use Super Likes sparingly, if at all, and only once your page and your messages are in good shape. Neither feature fixes weak photos or weak openers. Both simply get you seen faster, by more women or by one particular woman.
