Nobody outside Hinge knows, because Hinge does not publish a formula for how Standouts is scored. What it does say is that Standouts is a feed of the people catching the most attention on Hinge, tailored to your preferences and your recent activity. A new batch arrives each day, and the people in it still meet your preferences. So the selection is part popularity and part fit, and Hinge does not say how much of each.

What Hinge confirms

Hinge's help center gives a short description, and the rest of this article stays inside it.

Standouts is a feed of profiles catching the most attention on Hinge. It is tailored to your preferences and recent activity. A new batch appears daily, and you open it with the Star icon on the navigation bar. The profiles still meet your preferences, and every Hinge user has access to the feed.

That is the whole confirmed picture. It gives you the inputs, which are attention, your settings and your recent activity, and a rhythm of one batch a day.

What Hinge does not say

Hinge's description does not say what attention is measured by. It does not say whether that means Likes received, Roses received, time spent on a page, or something else. It does not say how the profiles in your batch are ranked against each other.

So any claim you read online with a precise formula, such as a points system or a percentage of likes needed, is a guess. Treat it that way, and do not rearrange your page around one.

How you act on a Standout

Standouts works differently from the main feed in one clear way. You cannot send a regular Like there. You can only send a Rose.

A Rose moves your page to the top of the person's Likes You list. A Next Refresh timer shows how long you have to interact with a Standout before the page refreshes with new people.

That makes the batch a small, time-limited set of choices. You are being asked to spend a Rose on a woman who is, by Hinge's own description, getting a great deal of attention.

Why the women there can feel out of reach

Hinge says a Standout may occasionally show up in Discover later, but that is not promised. It also says these profiles may no longer be looking for a match because they receive so much attention.

Read that plainly. The feed collects the women with the busiest inboxes, and Hinge itself says some of them may have stopped looking. A man who opens Standouts every day and sends a Rose to the first woman who stuns him is competing against everyone else doing the same thing, with one tool.

That does not make Standouts useless. It means the odds are different from the women who appear in Discover and who actually have room to answer.

How a man should use the batch

Give it a minute a day. Look through it, pick the one or two women who genuinely interest you and who are realistic for you, and send a Rose to those. Do not use it as your main source of dates.

a dating coach's advice on likes everywhere is to be selective. The reasoning applies here with extra force. A Rose is a limited tool. A woman sorting through a busy list will notice the page that gives her something specific to react to.

Hinge also describes its Discover feed as built on mutual interest. That is where most of your actual conversations will come from, so the larger share of your effort belongs there.

There is no prize for staying in the feed

A new batch appears each day, and the Next Refresh timer runs out whether you use it or not. Nothing in Hinge's description rewards a man who checks Standouts five times a day.

Open it once, send a Rose to the one woman worth it if there is one, and leave. Your attention is better spent on the matches who have already answered you, and on the women in Discover who still have room in their inbox.

What improves your odds in any feed

You cannot influence a formula Hinge does not publish. You can influence what a woman does when she sees you.

Put a clear solo photo of your face first. Add photos that show a real week with different settings. Replace vague written answers with ones she can comment on. When you like or Rose someone, make it a woman you would genuinely take out.

If you do those things, the batch is a bonus. If you do not, the feed that gets you the most dates is not the feed you are in.
