What Is Standouts on Hinge?

Standouts is a separate Hinge feed of people catching the most attention on the app, picked to fit your preferences and recent activity. You open it with the star icon at the bottom of the screen, every Hinge member has access to it, and the only way to reach someone there is with a Rose.

Tap the star icon in the row of icons at the bottom of the screen. Hinge describes what you get as a feed of profiles catching the most attention on the app, tailored to your preferences and recent activity. A second Hinge help page describes it as people receiving a lot of attention who still meet your preferences.

So Standouts is not a random sample. The people in it fit what you have told Hinge you want, and they are among the ones drawing the most interest.

Hinge says a new batch of Standouts appears daily. A Next Refresh timer shows how long you have to interact with someone before the page refreshes and new people appear.

In Standouts you can only send Roses, not likes. Hinge explains that a Rose moves you to the top of her Likes You screen, and the people in this feed are receiving a lot of attention. It says sending a Rose increases your chances of matching with someone in that position.

Every member gets a free Rose each week, and free Roses do not carry over. You can buy more in bundles if you want to send more than that. To send one in Standouts, tap the Rose icon on a photo or prompt you like, add a comment if you want, and tap Send Rose.

To pass on someone there, swipe the card to the left.

Standouts is easy to mix up with a paid feature, but Hinge says all users have access to the Standouts feed.

The feature it gets confused with is a HingeX perk called See Compatible People Sooner, and Hinge has a help page on exactly that difference. The HingeX feature works behind the scenes. It brings people who fit your shared preferences and recent activity to the top of your Discover feed, where you can send a like or a Rose. Standouts is a separate list of people receiving a lot of attention, and a Rose is how you reach them.

Hinge says some of the people in Standouts may appear in your Discover feed on a later day, but it makes no promise. It adds that because these people are getting a lot of attention, they may no longer be looking for a match.

So Standouts rewards deciding. If a woman there is someone you would genuinely want to meet, send the Rose while she is on your screen, before the Next Refresh timer runs out. Hoping she turns up later in Discover, where a plain like would do, is a gamble Hinge itself advises against when it tells you not to wait too long.

Often, yes, with one condition. You pick for fit, not just looks.

Every woman in your Standouts is getting a lot of attention, and a lot of it probably lands on her first photo. A Rose sent only because she is stunning puts you in line with everyone else who thought the same. Scroll to her answers instead. If something she wrote makes you want to reply, and she lives close enough to meet and wants what you want, she is a good use of your weekly Rose.

If nobody in the feed passes that test on a given day, keep the Rose. Plenty of women in Discover are worth one too, and the free Rose only has to go somewhere good before its week is up.

The comment does most of the work here. A woman in Standouts is seeing plenty of interest, and much of it sounds alike. A short, specific comment is how yours reads differently.

React to one detail, such as the place in her third photo or a strong opinion in one of her answers. Ask something she would enjoy answering, or tease lightly. Leave out compliments on her looks.

Then check what she will see when she reaches you. Your Rose sits at the top of her screen, and she will look at your first photo and read a line or two before deciding. A clear shot of your face in daylight and answers that sound like a person talking are what turn that top spot into a match.
