Raya's App Store listing is available in the China storefront as well as the US and UK ones. Raya calls itself a private global community, and its terms do not name China as a place you cannot be. What the pages do not tell you is how well the app works once you are there, and that is the question that decides whether Raya is worth the effort.
What Raya says about where it works
Raya's listing describes a private global community. It says members can find meaningful connections anywhere in the world, for dating, friendship or professional networking. It lists Daily Recommendations, Maps and Directory as features for connecting with people nearby or across the world.
So the app is designed to cross borders. A man in a city far from where most members live is not outside the product's intent.
The one country rule in the terms
Raya's terms say you must not be located in a country under a US Government embargo. The same goes for a country designated as a terrorist supporting country. That is a category and not a list of names, and the terms do not name China.
Read the terms yourself before you apply, since that line decides whether a given country is in or out. Where a given country falls is something to confirm from Raya's own text, not from a dating article.
What the listing and the terms do not say
Neither page promises that the app will load, connect or run well from any particular country. Whether you can reach Raya's servers, or download from a store, can depend on your phone, your network and your account, and none of that is something Raya's pages describe.
So treat "available in the storefront" as one check, not the full answer. The other checks are your own phone and your own connection.
The application comes first anyway
Raya is by application only. The form asks for your phone number, name, email, birth date, Instagram username, where you live, where you were born, your occupation and your employer.
A man outside the US should expect the application to be the real hurdle, the same as anyone else. The question of whether the app runs in your country only matters after Raya accepts you, so do not spend weeks solving the technical side first. Apply, and deal with it if you are accepted.
Why location matters more than the map
Even in a country where the app works, Raya is a network of members. It is only useful if there are enough of them near you or near where you travel.
Raya does not publish member counts by city. You will find out by using it, through the Maps and Recommendations features. A city with few members gives you a small pool, and no setting changes that.
This is true for any app. A tool that works perfectly in a city with few members can still be nearly useless to you. Before you pay for any membership, ask how many people you are likely to meet through it, and if you cannot answer, spend your first effort on apps with more users where you live.
How to check before you pay
Raya is by application, and accepted members choose a membership length. If you are accepted, do not rush into the longest one. Choose the shortest, then spend the first days checking the things the pages cannot promise.
Does the app open reliably on your phone? Do Daily Recommendations load? When you open Maps and Directory, do you see members near you, or none? Those three checks take an afternoon, and they tell you more about Raya where you live than any article can. If the answers are poor, you have lost a small amount and learned it early.
What to do if you live outside the usual cities
If you travel often, Raya's design suits you better than most apps, because members can connect across places. If you stay in one city, find out how active it is before you commit to a long membership.
Whatever city you are in, the basics decide results. Clear photos, an honest profile and a short, specific first message do more for you than the name of the app. A man with those on Hinge or Bumble will usually do better than a man with a weak profile on Raya.
