It is the objection men raise last, usually after they have decided the rest of it makes sense. If somebody else does the swiping and the texting, does the ability quietly drain out of me.

It deserves a straight answer rather than a wave of the hand, because there is a real version of the worry and a version that falls apart the moment you say which skill you mean.

Section 01

Two different things get called dating

The first is running the apps. Judging a face in half a second, writing an opening line, keeping four exchanges alive at once, remembering to answer on Wednesday.

The second is being good company across a table. Holding attention, staying relaxed, saying the thing you actually think, reading whether she wants the night to keep going.

Those are not the same ability and they barely feed each other. A man can be excellent at the first and stiff for the whole first hour of every date. Plenty are.

Section 02

Which one do you want to be good at

Ask it plainly and the worry gets smaller.

Nobody sets out to become excellent at maintaining a dating profile. It is not something you would list about yourself, and it is not what she is going to judge you on. It is upkeep, and it is upkeep with an odd property: doing it badly is expensive and doing it well produces nothing except a chance to go out.

The second one is the ability that matters, and the only way to build it is to keep doing it.

Section 03

Reps are what make a man better

Nerves fall off with repetition and almost nothing else. The first ten minutes of a first date stop being an event once you have had a lot of them. You stop rehearsing sentences in the car. You start noticing her instead of monitoring yourself.

A man who sits across from a woman most weeks is getting better whether he is studying anything or not. A man with one first date every six weeks spends most of it recovering from how long it has been.

Section 04

So do the arithmetic

If your own apps currently produce something like one date a month, and the arrangement steers at 2-3 dates each week, the thing you were afraid of losing is the thing you just multiplied.

That is what men miss when they picture outsourcing. They imagine dating less. What actually happens is the admin goes away and the evenings go up, which is the opposite trade to the one being feared.

Section 05

What is genuinely being handed over

Be precise about it. Not the date. The sorting, the typing and the scheduling.

Once you are at the table with her, nobody can help you and nobody is trying to. You are the man she was talking to, and the next two hours are entirely yours. That has not moved an inch, and it is the only part that was ever the interesting half anyway.

Section 06

The version of the worry that is real

There is one, and it should be said out loud.

If what you want is to be good at the apps themselves, handing them over will not make you good at them. You cannot outsource reps and collect the skill afterwards. A man who genuinely wants to learn how to turn a match into a Thursday should go and learn it, and being run for is the wrong purchase for him.

That is also why coaching calls sit beside the service as an add-on rather than inside it. They are for the man who wants both: the load carried now, and the method learned as he goes. If the skill is what you are after, take the add-on, and do not pretend a service is a substitute for practice.

Section 07

Will it make you soft

The other quiet fear is that having it handled makes you fragile. It does not, because the part that stings never left.

She still cancels on the day. Some evenings go nowhere and you know it by the second drink. Some women do not want to see you again and you find out by silence. All of that lands on you exactly as it did before, because all of it happens after the introduction, and the introduction was the only part anybody took.

What changes is that you stop losing weeks to an empty inbox, which is the form of decline men actually suffer from. Ability does not rust from being helped. It rusts from not being used.

Section 08

The honest summary

If you want to be good at running dating apps, keep running them.

If what you want is to be a man who is relaxed and good company across from a woman, the fastest way there is more evenings across from women, and the slowest is a Tuesday night spent clearing an inbox.

Your first date within a week, or we keep working. After that the target is 2-3 dates each week, which is another way of saying a great deal of practice at the only part that was ever yours.
