Not in any way Tinder's help center describes. Its instructions cover cancelling a subscription and downgrading one, and they do not describe a pause. If you want a break from Tinder, you can hide yourself with Enable Discovery, but that does nothing to the billing.
What you can do to the subscription
The help center gives two options: cancel it, or downgrade it. A Platinum subscriber can move between Plus, Gold and Platinum in the app, which changes the type of the subscription and not how long it runs.
Tinder describes Platinum as everything in Plus and Gold, plus Priority Likes. If the extra cost of Platinum is what is bothering you, a downgrade is a way to keep some of the features. If the whole subscription is the problem, cancel it.
How to cancel
The steps depend on where you bought it. That detail is the one most men miss, and it is why cancelling sometimes seems to do nothing.
On an iPhone, a purchase through Apple is cancelled in Settings, under Subscriptions. On Android, it is cancelled in Google Play, under Payments and subscriptions. If you bought on the website, you cancel on tinder.com under Manage Payment Account.
Tinder says subscriptions do not transfer between platforms. A subscription bought on iOS has to be cancelled on iOS, even if you have since switched to an Android phone. Look at how you were charged to work out where you paid.
What does not cancel it
Three things that feel like cancelling and are not. Tinder says a subscription renews on its own until you cancel it. It also says uninstalling or deleting the app does not cancel one. It also says deleting your Tinder account does not cancel an active subscription.
So a man who deletes the app in a bad week and assumes the charge stops will be billed again. Cancel where you paid, then check the store's own screen to confirm it shows as cancelled.
What to do if you only want a break
Tinder points to a different tool for this. Turn off Enable Discovery in Settings, and you are not shown to new people. You can still chat with the matches you already have.
That is a break from new attention, not from the bill. If you plan to be away for more than a few weeks and are paying for Platinum, cancel too. A paid subscription on a hidden account gives you nothing you are using.
When a break is the wrong answer
If you are thinking of pausing because matches dried up, the problem is rarely the plan you are on. a dating coach's way of looking at it is as a set of ratios. How many matches do you get for your time? How many are women you want? How many reply, and how many turn into dates? Find which one is weak.
A paid tier mostly multiplies the first ratio. If that number is already low, a break and a new tier will not fix it. If the number is fine and the conversations die, the fix is your first messages, not your subscription.
Use the break to change something. Come back with different lead photos and a better opener, and you will find out something you could not have learned by staring at the same results.
Write down what Platinum did for you. How many Likes came in, how many turned into conversations, how many into meetings. If the numbers were no better than your free weeks, you have your answer, and it is a cheap one.
A short checklist for stepping away
Work through these in order, because the third is the one that costs money.
- Turn off Enable Discovery if you only want quiet for a few weeks.
- Tell any woman you are mid-conversation with that you will be slow to reply, or move the chat to her number.
- Cancel or downgrade the subscription in the store where you bought it, and check the store's screen shows it cancelled.
If you come back later, you can buy Platinum again from the same place in the app. Nothing you do while you are away removes your matches, as long as you do not unmatch anyone or delete the account.
The short answer
You cannot pause Platinum with anything Tinder describes. Cancel or downgrade it where you bought it, hide yourself with Enable Discovery if you only want quiet, and judge the plan on your own numbers.
