Some people can. With Discovery off, Tinder stops showing you as a recommendation to new people, so nobody new comes across you. But anyone you had already Liked may still see you and match with you, and your existing matches keep their conversations with you. Discovery off makes you quiet, not invisible.

Who stops seeing you

Everyone new. Discovery is the setting that decides whether Tinder puts you in front of people as a recommendation. Switch it off in Settings and you drop out of that stack for anyone who has not already crossed paths with you.

It works in both directions. While Discovery is off, you also lose the ability to browse recommendations or send a Like to anyone new. Tinder treats hiding as stepping out of the market, not as watching from behind a curtain.

Who can still see you

Two groups of women can still reach you.

The women you already Liked. Tinder says people you Liked before you switched Discovery off may still see you and match with you. A Like you sent on Sunday is still sitting with her on Wednesday, hidden or not. Should she Like you back, that is a new match, even though you are out of everyone else's stack.

Your existing matches. Turning Discovery off does not undo a match. You can keep viewing and chatting with the women you already matched with, and the conversation is still there on her phone too. If she scrolls back to your chat, she finds you exactly where you were.

So the real answer to "who can see me" is anyone you have already said yes to. Nobody joins that group after you hide. It shrinks over time, one woman at a time, as each either returns your Like or skips past you.

Quiet is not invisible

That difference decides whether the setting fits what you want.

It suits a break well. If you are away for a few weeks, or your chats have piled up past what you can answer, hiding stops the flow of new people while you deal with what you already have. Nothing is lost, and switching the toggle back on returns you to normal.

It does not suit hiding from one particular woman. Discovery has no idea who you are trying to avoid. If she is already one of your matches, the setting does nothing about her. If you once Liked her, she can still come across you.

If you are hiding because things are going well with someone

This is the most common reason men switch Discovery off, and it is a sensible first step. You stop collecting new matches while you find out where things go with her.

Be clear with yourself about what the switch does not cover. Every conversation you already had is still open. If you are not going to follow any of them up, you can simply stop replying, or send one friendly line to close the ones that were warm. Leaving a half-built plan hanging with another woman is how awkward overlaps happen.

If she asks whether you are still on the app, tell her the truth: you have hidden your account and you are not looking for anyone new. That answer lands far better than a nervous one. When the two of you decide to be exclusive, deleting properly is the cleaner signal, and you can do that then.

If you want to disappear completely

The only way to take yourself away from everyone, matches included, is to delete the account. Tinder says you do that from Settings in the app or through its Manage My Account tool.

Know what you are trading first. Tinder keeps your profile data for 90 days once you delete. In some markets, signing up again with your old login during that time brings back a handful of basics, such as your name and age. It makes no promise about your matches or conversations. Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription either, so cancel that separately with whoever bills you. And a deleted account can no longer use Tinder's own download option to pull a copy of its data.

Before you flip the switch

Your last round of Likes is the part men forget. If you want nothing new arriving, switch Discovery off before you spend an evening liking, not straight after one. If you do not mind a few late matches, send your Likes first and hide afterward.

Then look at your open chats. Anyone you were close to setting a date with deserves either the date or a short note saying you will be slow for a while. Hiding is a setting. The women on the other side only notice what you say to them, or the silence where you used to be.
