You can cancel at any time, but cancelling does not give money back. eharmony's terms say Premium ends at the end of the term you paid for and you do not receive a refund for unused days. The one real exception is a right to cancel without penalty within three business days of the agreement, which applies to buyers in certain US states.
What cancelling actually does
On the web, you go to Data & Settings, choose Amend subscription (it reads Cancel auto renewal in the US), and follow the cancellation link at the bottom of the page.
What that does is stop the subscription from renewing into a new term. The current subscription still runs its full term. eharmony also says payments that are already pending can still be charged as scheduled.
So cancelling is about the next bill, not the last one. You keep Premium to the end of the term, which is the reason to do it as soon as you have decided and not at the last minute.
The three business day right
eharmony's terms give buyers in certain US states the right to cancel without penalty. The deadline is midnight of the third business day after the agreement, with Sundays and holidays excluded. The terms name twelve states. Arizona, California, Colorado and Connecticut come first. Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota follow. The list ends with New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
To use it, the terms say you can email subscriptions@eharmony.com or mail a signed and dated notice, and the notice does not need to take a particular form. A short message saying that you are cancelling under that right, with your name and the email on the account, covers it.
Act within the first couple of days. The window is counted in business days, and Sundays and holidays are skipped, so count it from the day of the agreement and do not leave it to the last evening.
If you paid through Apple or Google
Subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store are managed in your Apple Subscription settings. For Google Play, eharmony says to open Payments & subscriptions, select the subscription and tap Cancel subscription.
One mistake is common enough to name. Uninstalling the mobile app does not cancel a subscription or stop scheduled payments. The charge comes from the store, so it keeps going until you turn it off there.
If you are not sure which route you used, check where the payment shows up on your card statement. That tells you whether to cancel on the site or in a store.
Why the terms look the way they do
Premium is sold in multi-month plans, and eharmony's terms say the plans renew automatically unless the law prohibits it.
Longer plans mean a larger sum paid up front. A refund policy that returns nothing for unused days leaves the whole of that commitment with you. That is the part to think about before you buy, because by the time you are reading about cancellation, the decision has already been made.
Decide with results, not with how it feels
Many men reach for the cancel button after a bad week. A better test is a count.
a dating coach's rule for paid features on any dating app is to test them and judge by what they produce. Add up the conversations Premium gave you, and the ones that turned into a plan. If those numbers are near zero, cancel and move on. If a few women are talking to you and one date is booked, cancelling today may cost you the one change that was working.
Premium adds unlimited messaging with all members and seeing all member photos. It also adds seeing who has viewed you, distance search, a bespoke Personality Profile and dedicated Customer Care. The question is whether you used the pieces that matter. Unlimited messaging helps only if you write to women in a way that gets replies.
Before you buy, not after
The cheapest moment to think about a refund is before the purchase. Once a plan is bought, the terms leave you with a commitment and a short window in a handful of states.
So read the plan length and the renewal line on the purchase screen, and ask whether you would be happy to keep paying if the first month produced nothing. If the answer is no, start with Basic and upgrade later, once you have seen the site work.
Use the paid days before they end
If you cancel and still have weeks left, use them deliberately. Write to the women you have been putting off. Suggest a specific evening to the ones who are answering, and move the ones who agree to a phone number so the plan does not depend on the site.
That way a cancelled subscription still produces something. You leave with a date on the calendar instead of a lapsed account and a vague sense that eharmony did not work.
