Can You Cancel a Tinder Subscription in the First Three Days?

It depends on where you live. Tinder's Terms of Use give subscribers in a list of US states, and in Israel, a short window to cancel without penalty or obligation. The deadline is midnight of the third business day after the day you subscribed. If you subscribed with your Apple ID, the refund request goes to Apple, not Tinder.

The Terms name states in three parts of the country. In the West they are Arizona, California and Colorado. In the Midwest they are Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. On the East Coast they are Connecticut, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island.

Outside the United States, the same wording covers subscribers in Israel.

Business days are weekdays, so a weekend does not use up your window. The count starts on the day after you subscribe.

Take a man who subscribes on a Friday evening. Monday is the first business day after that. Tuesday is the second, and Wednesday is the third. He has until midnight at the end of Wednesday to cancel without penalty.

A man who subscribes on a Monday has less room than he thinks. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are his three business days, so his deadline is midnight at the end of Thursday.

If you are not sure which day you subscribed, check the date on the receipt rather than guessing from memory. Late-night purchases are the easy ones to misplace by a day.

Whichever day it is, do not cut it fine. Cancel early in the window, while there is nothing to argue about.

The Terms add one important line. If you subscribed with your Apple ID, refund requests are handled by Apple, not by Tinder. Tinder says Apple handles all refunds and cancellations for Tinder purchases made through the App Store, so you start at Apple Support.

The same logic applies to Google Play. Tinder says Google handles refunds and cancellations for purchases made through Google. For a plan bought from Tinder directly, with an order number starting with TNDR, you deal with Tinder.

Either way, cancel the subscription itself with the same company. A refund request and a cancellation are two different things, and a plan renews automatically until it is cancelled.

The three days are not a trial. No paid plan shows you what it can do for your matches in that time, and judging it that quickly leads to one of two bad calls. You keep a plan because one good evening felt like proof. Or you drop one because a slow Tuesday felt like failure.

So use the window for a different question. Why did you buy it, and will you put in the time it needs?
