Yes, a single dad can date a younger woman, as long as she is an adult and she wants the life you actually have. Plenty of women in their twenties and early thirties date men with children. Some will not, and the fastest way to find out which is to be upfront about your kids from the start. What decides it is her situation, not your age gap and not your fatherhood.
What she is weighing
A younger woman looking at a single dad is not asking whether he is too old. She is asking whether there is room for her in his life, and whether she wants the one he has.
Your children come first, and she knows it. She is trying to work out how much time you will have, how her own plans for the next few years fit with yours, and whether she would be a girlfriend or a stepmother to a child she did not choose. Those are fair questions, and a man who answers them calmly and honestly looks more attractive than one who dodges them.
What you have going for you
a dating coach notes that many older men have real advantages with younger women: life experience and things to teach. He describes taking a mentor or guide frame, where you show her something new and help her with it, as something many women respond to. A dad adds something else. You show up, you keep a schedule, and you take responsibility for someone, and that kind of reliability is easy for her to see.
He also stresses being clear about what you want. A man in his thirties or forties who knows whether he wants a serious partner or company and fun has a big edge over a man who says he is "open to anything." Decide first, then say it.
What can go wrong
Life stage is the common sticking point. A woman in her early twenties may be focused on her career, travel, or finishing school. A relationship with a man with school pickups and a custody schedule may not fit what she wants yet.
Her friends can also weigh in. Some will ask what a man your age wants with her. You cannot control that. You can show her that your interest is real by being consistent, introducing her to your life slowly, and treating her as an equal and not as a project.
The last risk is yours. Do not choose a younger woman because you think she will be easier, more impressed, or less demanding. Choose her because you like who she is. A woman who senses she was picked for her age will feel it.
How to bring up your kids
Say it early and plainly, without apology: "I have a six-year-old daughter. She is the best part of my week." It tells her you are a responsible man, and it screens out women who do not want children in their life before either of you wastes an evening.
Do not hide your kids on a profile or in the first few conversations. Hiding them looks like you are embarrassed, and she will wonder what else you left out.
You do not owe her every detail of your custody arrangement. You do owe her honesty about what your time looks like. "I am free Tuesday and Friday evenings" is a clear answer.
When to introduce her to your children
Many single dads wait until the relationship is serious. It is your call, and it depends on your children. Introducing a woman who may not stay can confuse a child.
A reasonable approach is to date for a while and make sure the relationship has real potential. Talk with her about how she feels about kids. Then introduce them gently and briefly. Tell her your reasons for waiting. A woman who is serious about you will respect them.
Where to meet her
Go where you would go anyway and where women your target age also go: classes, gyms, social events, friends of friends, and group activities. A woman who meets you in your normal life sees a man with a full life, which is more attractive than a man who is plainly searching.
Dating sites can also work for a dad with a limited schedule, because you can talk in small gaps. Be clear about being a father in your profile, and move to meeting in person quickly instead of texting for weeks.
Do not make fatherhood your whole personality
Being a dad is a strength. It shows you are reliable and capable of care. But on a date, she wants to meet the man as well as the parent. Talk about your work, your interests, and your ideas. Flirt a little. Enjoy yourself. A relaxed man with a full life is attractive, whether or not he has children.
