Yes, if she is a legal adult, she knows who you are and you treat her as an equal. An age gap between two adults is not wrong in itself. What can make it a problem is not the number. It is your reasons for choosing her, whether her stage of life fits yours and how you behave when it comes up. Those three are worth checking before you say yes to your own interest. It applies to matches on dating apps as much as anywhere else.
Why the question gets asked
Men ask whether they should date a younger woman, or whether it is a problem, because they hear conflicting messages. Friends joke about it. Strangers comment. A few people treat any age gap as suspicious. Meanwhile, you are attracted to her and she seems interested.
a dating coach's view is plain. Attraction does not age the way a man does. A man of forty-five usually still finds women in their late twenties and thirties more attractive than women his own age, and that is common for men. As you get older, you are likely to date with a bigger age gap, so the question will come up. Better to have thought about it.
What an age gap really tests
Two adults can have any age gap and a good relationship. But a gap tends to test three things, and they deserve honest answers.
Your motive. Ask yourself why her. If the answer is "she is easier, more impressed by me and less demanding," you are choosing for the wrong reason, and she will feel it. If the answer is "I like her, we laugh and we want similar things," the gap is a small detail.
Her life stage. A woman in her early twenties may be finishing school, building a career or planning to travel. You may want a house, children or stability. That is not a reason to say no, but it is a reason to talk about it early. Ask what she wants in the next few years, and tell her what you want.
How you act about it. A man who is apologetic or defensive makes the gap bigger. A man who is relaxed and honest makes it small.
What you bring
coach points out that older men often have real advantages. More life experience. A more settled life, with more time and money for good restaurants, events and trips. Things to teach: a mentor or guide frame that many women respond to. He says many women are drawn to men with experience and resources. He adds that younger men often have a harder time meeting girlfriends for exactly that reason.
Use those advantages honestly. Do not lecture her. Show it in how you plan an evening and how you talk about your week.
Be upfront, and let her know you before the number
My advice on age is simple. Ideally she knows you and likes you before age becomes a consideration, so do not bring it up first. Let the conversation be about the two of you, not about the years between you.
That is not hiding. If she asks how old you are, tell the truth. You can answer lightly and honestly, with a smile. What you never do is let her go on believing you are younger. The earlier she hears it from you, in a comfortable moment, the better.
If you met on a dating app, she has probably seen your age already, so there is no secret to keep. Spend your first messages on something else, like a place you both like or something she mentioned.
Dress and act for the room
If you take her to places where women her age go, dress so you fit in. That does not mean copying a twenty-five-year-old. It means clothes that fit, shoes in good shape and nothing that looks tired. You want to look like a man who chose to be there.
What her friends and family may say
People will comment. A friend of hers may ask what a man your age wants with her. Her parents may have a view. You cannot control any of it.
What you can do is be consistent, treat her well, and not get defensive. Answer questions calmly, with short, honest replies. Over time, your behavior answers the question better than any speech.
How to talk about the gap
Do not make a joke about it every ten minutes, and do not tell her she is "mature for her age" as your main compliment. Both put the number at the center. Treat her as a woman you like. Ask what she loves, what she is working on and what she wants.
If she brings up the age, listen. She may have a real concern. Answer honestly instead of defensively. If she is fine with it, she will say so, and you can leave it alone.
When it is not ok
A few cases are clear. If she is not an adult, the answer is no. If you are choosing her because you expect to control her, no. If you are hiding things she would care about, such as children, an ex-wife or your real age, no.
Those are not about the age gap. They are about honesty and respect, which matter in every relationship.
How to decide
Ask three questions. Do I like who she is, apart from her age? Have we talked about what each of us wants? Am I acting like the man I want to be around her? If the answers are yes, the gap is not a reason to stop.
If she is a woman you like, treat her well and let her decide. That is how any good relationship starts.
