The causes Facebook documents are short. A Dating conversation goes when either person deletes their Dating account. It also goes when either person deletes their whole Facebook account, or when you remove it from your own inbox. It can also look gone because you opened Messenger or a computer instead of the Facebook app on your phone.
A deleted Dating account takes the conversation with it
Facebook says that deleting a Dating profile removes the profile, the answers, the likes, the matches and the conversations. That applies to her as much as to you.
If she deleted her Dating profile, the chat you had with her goes with it. You will not get an error or a warning. The conversation is just no longer in your list.
Men take this personally, and most of the time it is not about them. Women delete their Dating profiles because they met someone, because they are tired of the app, or because they want a break. A vanished conversation is a bad sign only if the last thing you sent was something you would not want to explain.
A deleted Facebook account does the same
Delete a Facebook account and the Dating profile on it is removed too. The Dating conversations go with it. So a woman who leaves Facebook entirely takes every Dating chat with her.
If a conversation disappears and her account no longer shows up anywhere on Facebook, this is a likely reason. There is nothing you can do to bring it back.
You may have removed it yourself
You can remove a conversation from your own Dating inbox. When you do, it stays in the other person's inbox. It does not delete it for her.
This works in the opposite direction too. If she removed the conversation from her side, you will not see a change on yours. And nobody can delete messages from another person's Dating inbox. So when no profile or account has been deleted, the one person who can make a conversation leave your inbox is you.
If you tapped something by accident while cleaning up your list, that is the likeliest explanation for a chat that vanished while she is still active.
You might be looking in the wrong place
Facebook Dating is only available in the Facebook app on Android and iPhone, not on a computer. A man who opens Facebook in a browser will not find his Dating messages there, and it can look like they have gone.
Dating chats also live inside Dating. They are not a normal Messenger chat, so searching Messenger will not turn them up. Open the Facebook app on your phone, go to the Dating section, and look there first.
Do not count on the app to hold the conversation
The lesson in all of this is practical. A conversation that exists only inside a dating app can vanish with a single deletion on either side. You have no control over her choices and no copy anywhere else.
So treat a good conversation as something to move out of the app once it is going well. After a few good exchanges, when she is clearly interested, ask for the next step. "I'd like to keep talking somewhere easier. Want to swap numbers?" is a plain, friendly line. Most women who are enjoying the chat say yes.
Better still, ask her to meet. A date on the calendar does not depend on any app keeping a record. Aim to suggest a specific day and place within a week or so of the first real exchange.
Write every message so you can live with it
Because you cannot delete anything from her side, every message you send can last as long as she wants it to. That is worth remembering whenever you are tempted to type something sharp, sarcastic, or desperate late at night.
Short, warm, specific messages hold up well. A message you would be fine having read aloud is a message you can send. If you would be embarrassed to see it again, do not send it.
When a good conversation is already gone
First, check whether you removed it. Then check you are in the app on your phone and not on a computer. If neither is it, assume she deleted her Dating profile or her account and move on.
Do not message her somewhere else to ask where the chat went. You rarely have another way to reach her anyway, and asking reads as pressure from a man she was chatting with for a few days. Take it as information and go back to the people who are still around. Then apply the one habit that fixes this: get the conversation to a phone number or a date while it is alive.
The short version
Facebook Dating messages disappear when a Dating profile is deleted. They also go when a whole Facebook account is deleted, or when you remove a conversation from your own inbox. They can also seem missing if you look on a computer. You cannot delete from her inbox, and she cannot delete from yours. Do not rely on the app to keep a good conversation. Move it to text, or better, to a real plan.
