No dating app can show that it has the best algorithm, because none publishes its full formula and nobody outside the company can measure it. The apps say they weigh similar things: how active you are, who you like and skip, how far away you are, your stated preferences and who likes you back. So the best algorithm for you is the one on the app where your photos, messages and location earn the most dates. You find that by testing, not by reading ranked lists.
There is no verified winner
Be careful with articles that crown one app. They are comparing inputs the apps share, not outcomes anybody measured. The apps tell you what goes in, and they never tell you how much each input counts. How much does distance matter next to activity? Nobody outside the company knows.
a dating coach says the same. It is a proprietary system running behind the curtain, so you work from experience and logic. His logic is simple: every dating app is a business, and it rewards what keeps its users happy and coming back.
What the big apps say they use
Tinder says the biggest factor is how actively you use the app, with a preference for people who are active at the same time. It also names distance, interests, and your likes and nopes.
Hinge says its matching uses age, gender, location, preferences and who you like, skip or match with. Its help pages recommend sending quality likes over many careless ones, because the system learns from what you do.
OkCupid is different because it is built around questions. Its match score comes from what you want, what the other person wants and how you both answered the same questions.
Notice what the three have in common. Activity, behavior and stated preferences feed all of them. None says that a secret trick beats the basics.
What best should mean for a man
When a man asks which algorithm is best, he usually means which app will show him to the women he wants. That is not a property of the algorithm alone. It depends on who is on the app in your area, how old they are, what they are looking for, and how your photos and messages land with them.
An app with a strong algorithm and few women your age near you will lose to a weaker app with a lively local crowd. So judge the app by results in your city, not by its reputation.
Test the apps with your own numbers
You can run a fair test without any inside knowledge.
Use two apps for a few weeks each with the same quality of photos and the same care in your messages. Spend roughly the same time on each. For each one, write down the matches you got, how many were women you would be glad to meet, how many replied, how many agreed to a plan and how many dates happened.
Compare dates per hour, not matches per week. The app with the better number is the best one for you now, whatever anyone says about its formula. Repeat the test occasionally, because apps change.
What you control beats the formula
a dating coach lists behaviors an app tends to punish, and every one of them is in your hands. Swiping right on everyone teaches the app nothing about your taste. Harsh behavior with women, frequent unmatches and reports can count against you, because the app wants women to stay happy. A dull page that women pass on teaches the app that you do not hold their attention.
The opposite also holds. Better photos earn more likes, and a page that starts real conversations tells the app you keep women engaged. Being good at the visible part helps twice, once with the women and once with the app. So use the app often enough to stay active, keep sessions short, like only women you would meet, answer the women who write to you, and keep your conduct clean.
What about paid boosts
a dating coach notes that when a man gets almost no matches, the cause is often up front. It may be the photos and the page. It may also be that the app simply is not showing him to many women. Paid memberships and boosts can put your page in front of more of them, and he treats paying as a time-saving trade when your page already works.
The order matters. Fix the photos and the first line first, because more exposure multiplies what you already have. A weak page shown to more women just loses more of them faster.
The practical answer
Start with the app that has the most women you would like to meet near you. Give it strong photos and a short daily session. Count your dates for a few weeks. If the numbers are poor and the page is strong, try the next app. The best algorithm is the one whose crowd responds to you, and your own count will tell you which that is.
