Which Countries Is Hinge Available In?

Hinge publishes a list of the countries where it is available on its help site. The list includes the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland. It also names Australia, New Zealand, India, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, France and Spain, among others. It changes over time, so check the Availability page in Hinge's help center before you move or book a trip. One rule matters most for a fresh account: your first location has to be in a country where Hinge can be downloaded.

The list lives on a help page called Availability, and the same page states the minimum age to use the app. It is short and easy to read, and it is the only place worth trusting on this question. Forum posts and old articles go out of date. Hinge's own page is the one it maintains.

If the country you care about is on the list, you are fine. If it is not, you will not be able to download the app there, and it is better to find that out before you land than after.

Setting up a fresh account includes choosing where you want to date. For new members, Hinge only supports setting that first location in a country where the app is available for download.

The consequence is spelled out plainly. If you create an account and set your location to a place where Hinge is not available, the account may be removed. So set up where you actually are, in a country on the list, and change it later if your life moves.

Hinge makes a distinction that is easy to miss. Being able to set your location somewhere in the app does not mean the app can be downloaded or used in that country.

So a pin that drops happily onto a map does not prove anything. If you are heading somewhere for work or a long stay, look at the Availability page first. It is a two-minute check that saves you a week of wondering why nothing is working.

Moving is one of the best times to be on the apps. You arrive knowing nobody, and every woman in your feed is a real chance to build a life in the place rather than just pass through it.

Two things help. First, update your location as soon as you arrive. Hinge does not change it for you, so until you do, you are still showing up for women in the place you left. Tap your Photo Icon, the Pencil Icon, then Location under My Vitals, and move the pin.

Second, let your page say what is true. A line in a prompt about having just arrived, what brought you, and what you are still figuring out about the city gives her an easy opening. Women who grew up there like being asked for the best bakery in town. That is a conversation with a built-in reason to keep going.

A short trip is different, and honesty matters more.

If you change your location for a visit, tell her within the first few messages. "Over here for a conference until Friday" covers it. Some women will be happy to grab a drink with a visitor. Others want someone local. Both are fair, and telling her up front lets her choose without feeling misled later.

When you get home, change your location back. Men forget this step constantly, and it leaves them chatting with women in a city they no longer live in.

Some men think dating abroad follows totally different rules. Some customs do vary, and it is worth being curious about them. But the basics of the apps hold up almost everywhere.

Your photos still do most of the work. Candid, recent shots of you living an ordinary good life beat staged ones in any language. Your first message still has to be about her rather than a generic hello. And a conversation still needs to turn into a plan before it goes quiet.

What changes is the small stuff: which neighborhoods people go out in, what time dinner starts, whether a Sunday afternoon coffee is a normal first date. Ask the women you are talking to. People like explaining their city, and asking is a more natural way into a conversation than any line you could write.
