Go where women are relaxed and not in a hurry: parks and cafes in the daytime, ordinary bars in the evening. You cannot tell who is single from across a room, and you do not have to. You say hello, you talk, and the conversation tells you. Manhattan is a good place to do this because so many people are packed into so little space.
Men also ask "how many single women are in Manhattan". We will not give a number, since a figure would be made up. It also does not matter. The number of women you can speak to in an afternoon is already far larger than the number you will.
Why Manhattan is good for this
It is small and dense. A woman at a cafe, a park bench or a bar is a short walk from the next one, and you move from place to place on foot or by subway. That gives you plenty of chances and low stakes.
a dating coach says New York has an almost endless supply of strangers, and that this is what makes it his favorite city for learning. If you talk to a woman and it goes badly, you will probably never see her again.
He also notes that a lot of people in New York are new to the city and have not built a large circle yet. They are actively looking to meet people, which means many are more open to a friendly hello than you might expect.
Daytime places
Parks. Washington Square Park, Bryant Park, Madison Square Park and Union Square Park are among the ones a dating coach likes. Women alone on a bench have time and attention to spare.
Cafes. A woman with a coffee and a book is stationary and easy to approach. Keep the first exchange light.
Anywhere a woman is lingering. Bookstores, markets and shops count. A woman standing still is easier to talk to than a woman moving.
The street is also fair game, with a caution. A lot of people there are hurrying, wearing headphones or in crowds. Pass on anyone clearly on a mission.
Evening places
Ordinary bars are the right start. They are open to everyone and often full of people who came out after work. A weeknight is quieter, and a woman out midweek tends to have meant to go out.
You do not need an exclusive club. They exist, and a dating coach notes they are harder to get into. A man learning does better in busy, open bars where he can talk to many people.
Neighborhood note
Where you live affects how easy dates are. a dating coach's point is that women will come to Manhattan, especially lower Manhattan, much more readily than they will travel out to the outer boroughs. A man who lives in a central spot has an easier time getting a woman to show up. This is a point about logistics, not about where women are.
What to say
Say hello, say why you stopped, and let her talk. "I saw you reading and wanted to say hi" is enough. Then ask about what she is doing and answer what she says.
If she is interested, ask for her number or suggest a coffee close by. If she is not, thank her and go. You do not need to ask whether she is single first. If there is a boyfriend, she will usually say so, and you can wish her a good day.
Why you need more than a list of places
Most men reading this already know a park or two. The hard part is the thirty seconds before you walk over, and no list fixes that.
That is the part a coach can work on in the moment. Cold Approach runs a Private Bootcamp in New York, arranged with you after booking, and Group coaching is available on request. Every training day is two four-hour blocks in the field, with daygame and nightgame mixed to suit you. A coach stands beside you and coaches each approach as it happens. You leave with a written practice plan and access to the community Slack.
