Hire one when you have tried the obvious fixes and your swiping, matches and messages still are not producing dates, or when you cannot tell what is wrong from the inside. The clearest signs are matches that fade before a plan and chats that stall at the same point. Wait if you have not yet given the free fixes two honest weeks, or if you will not do the work between calls.
Signs it is time
Matches that go nowhere. Women like you back, and a few of them write, but nothing becomes a plan. That is usually fixable, and it is hard to see yourself.
The same stall every time. Each conversation dies in the same place. You send a first line, she answers, and by the fourth message you have lost her. A coach reading real chats spots what you do at that point because he sees many men do it.
Two weeks of changes with no movement. You swapped the lead picture, rewrote your first line and answered faster, and your numbers did not move. When the easy changes have not worked, something less obvious is wrong.
You cannot tell which part is broken. Is it your pictures, your first line, your timing or the way you ask? a dating coach's advice is to change one thing at a time so you know what helped, but that works only if you can see the options. A coach narrows them.
You want correction, not theory. Dating skill improves when someone watches you try something and tells you what to adjust. If you learn that way, the weekly loop is what you are paying for.
Try the free fixes first
Before you pay anyone, run the cheap tests for two weeks. They cost nothing and they tell you what a coach would charge you to find.
Show your pictures to a friend, and better yet to a woman who is a friend. a dating coach says that a few honest opinions from female friends are probably enough to get a man some level of success, and a coach is the next step beyond that. Cut any picture that makes people hesitate.
Like fewer women, on purpose. a dating coach says an app reads a man who likes everyone as less attractive, so selectivity improves what you see. Write to women about a real detail on their page, and suggest a plan within a handful of exchanges. Count your numbers: women liked, likes returned, replies, plans made.
If those two weeks move your numbers, you may not need a coach yet. If they do not, you have good information for the first call.
When to wait
Wait if the free fixes are untried. A coach can only add to what you are already doing, and he will spend your first sessions on things a friend could have told you.
Wait if you do not have the hours. A coach tells you on Tuesday what to change, but you have to change it, and the reps are yours. If you will not write to her or ask her out yourself, no coach can do it for you.
Wait if what you need is not coaching. A coach builds a skill, and he is not a therapist. If low mood, anxiety or grief is what stops you, a therapist comes first. Our own disclaimer says coaching is not medical or psychological advice.
When another kind of help fits better
Some men do not want to learn this at all. They want the apps handled so their evenings stay free. That is a reasonable preference, and a service that runs the apps for you is a different purchase from coaching. Decide which you want before you start comparing prices, because the wrong one wastes money either way.
What to bring to the first call
Bring real conversations, as screenshots, including the ones that went badly. Bring your numbers from the two weeks of testing. Bring one sentence about what you want, such as a girlfriend in a year or a few good dates a month. A coach can do much more with that than with a general complaint that online dating does not work.
What to expect after you start
The first change tends to show within two weeks, in how many of your likes come back and how many matches answer. A steady run of dates takes longer, because turning a conversation into a plan is a skill you practice, one chat at a time.
a dating coach says it helps to find a mentor or a peer group on a similar path, someone who encourages you and pushes you when you slip. That is the real job of a coach. Hire one when you are ready to use it.
