Zoosk describes its sales as occasional, not scheduled. Its help center says it occasionally offers promotional pricing, and it tells members to watch their emails and in-app notifications for special offers. The reliable way to see what is on offer for you is to select Go Premium or Upgrade, on the website or in the app, and read the plans on that screen.
What Zoosk actually says
Three points come straight from Zoosk's help center.
First, promotions are occasional. Occasional is not a schedule, so a man who waits for a particular week is guessing.
Second, price varies by subscription length and by any promotion in effect. The amount at checkout is always the most accurate figure. A number you read on a forum or in an article can be out of date by the time you buy.
Third, a free account can be used for as long as you like. You are never forced to buy, so you can wait for a good offer without losing anything but time.
Where to look for an offer
Check these places in this order:
- Your email inbox. Zoosk says promotions reach members by email, so look in the folders where promotional mail ends up, not only your main inbox.
- The in-app notifications on your phone.
- The Go Premium or Upgrade screen, which shows the plans and any offer available to you at that moment.
The third is the one that settles the question. The first two tell you something might be coming. The upgrade screen tells you what is there now.
How coupon codes work
If you find a code, the rules are narrow. Zoosk says coupon codes work only on a new subscription bought on the Zoosk website, paid by credit card or PayPal.
They cannot be used on the App Store or Google Play, on renewals, or on existing subscriptions. So a code is a tool for a man starting fresh on the website. If you already have a subscription, it will not lower your next renewal.
That shapes where you should buy. If you have a code, go to the website and pay there. If you start in the app, the code will not apply, and you cannot move the purchase afterward.
Why app prices can differ
Prices in the iOS and Android apps are set through the App Store and Google Play, and Zoosk says they may differ from web pricing. So a website offer and an app price are two separate things.
Before you pay, compare both screens. Then pick the one that is cheaper for you, remembering that only the website accepts a coupon code.
Is waiting for a sale worth it
Sometimes yes, and sometimes the wait costs more than the discount saves.
a dating coach's advice on paying for online dating is that the instinct to never pay for anything is a hindrance. His point is that a man who refuses to spend on principle may be giving up results. He treats a paid tier as a business decision: it is worth it in most cases, provided the price is not crazy. His reasoning is that these sites are businesses, and the people who pay are the ones they work to keep happy.
If a discount is sitting in front of you and you plan to use the membership, take it. If you are only waiting for a discount while your photos sit unchanged, the wait is not what is slowing you down.
What a discount cannot fix
A cheaper month of membership does the same thing as an expensive one. It gives you the ability to message the women who are there. It does not improve your photos, and it does not improve the first line you send.
My method is to test, tweak and test again. So before you subscribe at any price, fix the part you control. Use a clear, daylight photo of your face first. Write a first message that gives her something to answer. Then pay for a stretch of time and use it on purpose.
Use the free account as your test
Because the free account never expires, you can run the experiment before you spend. Browse for a few evenings. Count how many women near you are active, and how many you would be glad to meet. If the answer is a handful, no sale will make Zoosk worth it where you live.
If the answer is a healthy number, then the question becomes how to get the most from a paid month. Set a goal for the month, such as a number of women written to and a number of replies. My method gets from a first line to an exchange of numbers in about four to seven short texts, so you can judge a month by how many conversations reached that stage.
If you subscribe
Write down the date your term ends, and decide at the start whether you want a second one. Zoosk's renewals are covered by its no-refund rule, so a renewal you did not plan on is money you do not get back. If you only want one term, turn off renewal right after you buy.
When the month is done, count what it produced. A coach can read your conversations with you and show you which step loses her, which is worth more than any promotion.
