Facebook Dating does not reset on a timer, and there is no reset button. Facebook's Help Center describes starting over as deleting your Dating account in the app and making a new one later. A new one cannot be created for seven days after you delete the old one.

There is no schedule

Men ask this because their likes dried up, or the suggestions started repeating, and they assume the app clears itself at some point. Facebook does not describe anything like that. Nothing resets overnight, weekly, or monthly.

What you see in Dating changes as your preferences, your interests and your activity change. A quiet week is not the app being reset or broken. It is the app showing you the people it has, to the extent that the people it has fit what you asked for.

How starting over works

The only route Facebook describes is deleting. Open the Facebook app, then go to Menu, Dating, Settings, Account, and tap Delete Profile. Confirm, and it is gone.

You can do this without touching your main Facebook account. Your friends, posts and Messenger chats stay as they are. The reverse is not true: if you delete the whole Facebook account, your Dating profile is removed automatically along with it.

What the deletion wipes

Read this part twice, because it is the reason to hesitate. Deleting the Dating profile removes the profile itself, your answers, your likes, your matches and your conversations.

Everything, including the chat with the woman who finally replied. A deleted conversation does not come back, and you cannot rebuild a list of people you liked. If someone in there matters to you, get her number first and move that conversation to text. Do it before you tap anything.

The seven day wait

After you delete, you cannot make a new Dating profile for seven days. So there is no quick version of starting over. You lose the whole thing and then sit out a week.

Use the week. The worst way to spend it is refreshing the app and waiting. The best way is to fix whatever you are about to rebuild, which is the subject of the next two sections.

Does a restart change your results?

Usually not. A man whose likes have gone quiet tends to blame the account, delete it, and come back with the same photos and the same answers. The same inputs give the same results, only now with every conversation lost.

What your page showed her was the problem, rather than the app itself. If she looked at your page and did not like back, deleting the page does not change what she saw.

What to change instead

Before you delete anything, change one thing at a time and watch what happens.

Start with the first photo. It should show your face clearly, in daylight, with you looking relaxed. A group shot, sunglasses, or a photo taken from far away is the usual weak spot. Swap it, give it a few days, and see if more people like you back.

Then rewrite your dullest answer. Replace a generic line with a specific one that gives her something to ask about. "I like to travel" tells her nothing. Something you actually did last year, in one sentence, gives her a way to start talking.

Then check your messages. If you are matching and nothing follows, your openers are the problem, not the app. Ask a short question that shows you read something she wrote.

Small edits teach you what works. A wipe teaches you nothing, because you change everything at once and cannot tell which part helped.

When a restart does make sense

There are honest reasons to start over. You may have a page full of old answers and photos you are embarrassed by. You may have moved cities and want a clean start. You may have been off the app for a long time and want to rebuild it properly.

In those cases, spend the seven days gathering better photos and writing better answers, so that the day you can start again, the page you put up is better than the one you deleted. A restart is useful only if what comes back is an upgrade.

The short version

Facebook Dating does not reset on its own. The only way to start over that Facebook describes is to delete your Dating profile through Menu, Dating, Settings, Account, Delete Profile. Then you wait seven days before you make a new one. Deleting removes your answers, likes, matches and conversations, but not your Facebook account. Before you do it, save any number you want to keep, and ask whether a better photo and a sharper answer would do the job without the loss.
