First check that the drop is real. Then fix what you stopped doing, spend two weeks being the man she first met, and have one calm conversation where you ask how she feels and listen. Do not chase, interrogate, or test her. Chasing makes the slide faster, and the only thing you fully control is how you show up.
Check that it is real
One cold weekend is not a trend. Look at the last month, and ask three things.
Does she start contact less than she used to? Does she make time for you, or only fit you into gaps? And is the warmth lower, in how she talks, touches you and laughs at your jokes?
If it is two out of three and it has gone on for weeks, treat it as real. If she was just stressed at work, you will find out in the next step anyway, because it will pass.
Step one: list what you stopped doing
My line on this is that most men showed their best to win her and then showed their worst once she was won. You looked sharp, had plans, flirted, and made an effort. Two months later you are on the couch in the same clothes, you have stopped training, and your talk has turned into logistics.
He calls it false advertising. You sold her one man and delivered another. Write down what you did in the first month that you do not do now. The usual list is:
- Planning real dates and not just "what do you want to do"
- Dressing well for her
- Flirting and teasing, not only chatting about the day
- Training and keeping your own goals going
- Making her laugh
- Following through on the plans you talked about
Pick the three you dropped the most.
Step two: two weeks of being the man she met
Start with the list. Plan one proper evening a week, with a place you chose. Get back to the gym or the project you let slide. Tease her again. Compliment her in a specific way: not "you look nice," but "that color on you is unfair."
Do not tell her you are doing it, and do not do it as a performance to earn forgiveness. You are putting the real version of yourself back, and you will feel better anyway.
Keep your own life moving, too. coach says you need a life outside her, because a man completely wrapped up in his girlfriend has nothing left that is interesting to her. If you have dropped friends and goals to be around her, that is part of the problem.
Step three: one calm conversation
After the two weeks, say something like:
"I've noticed we've been more distant lately, and I think part of that is on me. I got comfortable. I'm working on it. How are you feeling about us?"
Then stop talking and listen. My advice is to ask the question back and let her explain. Men go wrong by rushing to fix, or by arguing with the conclusion she gives. If she says "I feel like you don't make an effort," do not defend your record. Ask, "What would make you feel that I did?"
Women, he points out, often do not want a solution. They want to feel heard. Repeat back what you heard in your own words, then ask what she wants.
coach also warns against spending every conversation on "what are we." Naming the problem once is fine. Replaying it every night turns the relationship into a hearing.
What not to do
- Do not text her ten times and ask why she has not answered. That is neediness, and it adds to the distance.
- Do not set tests, like going quiet to see if she reaches out.
- Do not make her jealous. It gives you a short rush and costs you trust.
- Do not give an ultimatum you do not mean. coach tells the story of a client who gave one he did not believe in and then folded under pressure. It cost him power and he did not get what he wanted.
- Do not beg. Begging tells her you have no other option, and that is the opposite of why she liked you.
If she lives far away
Distance makes a dip look larger. Check whether your calls have turned into updates, and bring back the planning and the teasing you used to do. Book the next visit before you have the conversation, so she has something to look at.
If you are the one losing interest
Some men land here by searching why they are losing interest in their girlfriend. If that is you, be honest. Is it boredom you could fix with effort, a real mismatch, or a sign that you want out? Fixing the first is the same work as the steps above. For the others, tell her the truth kindly and sooner, not after months of drift.
When she says she is done
If she tells you plainly that she wants to end it, believe her. Say a short, decent thing, such as "I'm sorry it ended up here. I wish you well," and start the break. Pleading after that only wastes your pride.
