The minimum age to use Boo is 18. Boo says anyone under 18 can join once they reach that age. Past that, the age range you see is yours to set: tap Filter at the top right of the Match screen and adjust it, along with gender, relationship type, personality type and distance. If you want to start over, a reset icon in the upper right corner of the filter menu clears your preferences.

Setting the range

Open the Match screen and look for Filter in the top right corner. That one menu holds everything Boo lets you narrow: who you want to see, what kind of relationship you want, age, personality type and distance.

If you tighten a setting and regret it, the reset icon in the upper right corner of the filter menu puts your matching preferences back. It is a useful way to undo a tangle of changes without remembering which one did the damage.

Changing the age on your account

Boo does not let you change your birthday or age directly in the app. If your age is wrong, you contact support through Send Feedback in Settings, or by email.

Men sometimes want to fix this because they mistyped a date during signup. That is a fair reason, and a correction request is the way to do it. Do not try to make a new account with the right date, since a duplicate profile creates problems of its own.

What to set for yourself

Most men start by setting a narrow band around the age they have in mind. That feels precise and it backfires, because every restriction removes people from a daily set that is not unlimited to begin with.

Boo itself points at this. If the Match page says No Souls Found, it suggests widening your filters. It also says the app sometimes shows profiles outside your set preferences, distance included, to add variety.

So give yourself a little room. Set the range a few years wider than your first instinct, and let your own judgment do the choosing on each profile. Pass on the ones you do not like. Do not let a number remove them before you have seen a photo.

Personality type is a filter too

The same Filter menu lets you narrow by personality type, since Boo is built around it. It is tempting to pick a type you think suits you and filter everyone else out.

Resist that for the first few weeks. Each filter you add shrinks a daily set that is already limited, and a type label tells you less about a woman than her photos and her answers do. Use the age range and distance first, and add a personality filter only if you have tried the wider view and still want it.

Her range matters too

There is a second age filter you cannot touch: the one she sets. A woman who limits her range to a certain age never sees a man outside it, however good his photos are.

a dating coach gives an example from Tinder. A woman caps her range at 29. A charming 38 year old would get along with her fine in person and she would find him attractive, but the filter keeps him out of her view. My point is that an app's filters can block a good match before the two people ever see each other.

You cannot change her setting. What you can control is everything else: the photos and the first lines she reads once she does see you. A strong profile is the part of this that works at any age.

Be honest about the number

Do not set your own age lower than it is, and do not try to look younger on the profile. A woman who asks about it in the first chat, or on the first date, finds out the same day, and the lie costs you the date.

A man who is relaxed about his age looks more confident than one who is hiding it. How you carry your age matters more than the number.

If the Match page keeps running out

If the screen says No Souls Found over and over, widen age first, since it is the setting you can move without changing who you want to meet. Then widen distance a little. Check each change for a few days before you touch the next one, so you learn which setting brought people back.

If the page is still empty after that, the pool near you may simply be small. That is useful information about the pool instead of a problem with the age setting, and it tells you to use another app alongside Boo rather than rely on it.
