Spots are favorite places you choose on happn from a set list in five categories: outdoors, bars and cafes, clubs, restaurants and culture. The ones you pick show up for other members to see. You can then find people who chose the same places by moving around the Map and tapping the Spots icon in the bottom right corner, or by opening the Spots section on your page. happn says the feature is only available in certain cities, so it may not appear where you live.
How to pick your Spots
You choose your Spots when you create your account, from the list happn gives you. The list is split into five categories: outdoors, bars and cafes, clubs, restaurants and culture.
Your choices are displayed on your page, so every woman who looks at you sees where you like to spend your time. Treat them as part of how you present yourself, not a form to rush through.
Finding people who chose the same places
There are two ways to find people who share your Spots.
The first is the Map. Move around it and tap the Spots icon in the bottom right corner. The second is your own page. Open the Spots section there and you can see who picked the same places.
Either way, you end up with a list of people who like the same spots you do, which is a far better starting point than a stranger with nothing in common.
Only in some cities
happn says Spots is only available in designated cities. If you cannot find the Spots icon or section, that is the likely reason.
If you live somewhere without it, the rest of happn still works the same way, built around the people you cross paths with. You just do not get this extra way of finding people.
Choose places you actually go
The mistake men make here is picking the spots they think sound impressive. A wine bar he has been to once. A gallery he has never set foot in. A rooftop he saw on social media.
That backfires in two ways. It finds you women who love a place you do not know, so the conversation dies the moment she asks about it. And it paints a picture of your life that is not true, which shows the first time you meet.
Pick the places you really go. The coffee shop where the staff know your order. The park where you run on weekends. The bar where you watch the game with friends. Those spots give her an honest look at your week, and they give you something real to talk about when she asks.
Use a shared spot in your first message
A shared spot is a gift for your first message. You already know one thing she likes, and it is something you like too.
a dating coach looks for something unusual to comment on or tease her about when he writes first, and he keeps it short. A shared spot gives you exactly that. Ask whether she is a regular or just passing through. Tease her gently about the busiest time of day there. Guess what she orders.
What you want to avoid is the flat version: "I see we both like that cafe." It is true, but it gives her nothing to answer. Turn it into a question or a small bit of fun, and she has an easy reason to write back.
What a shared spot does for your matches
The real value of Spots comes after the first message. It makes the date almost plan itself.
a dating coach goes from a first message to a plan in four to seven texts, and he likes to keep dates close to home, where getting from one place to the next is easy. A shared spot does most of that work. You both know the place, you both like it, and it is somewhere you already go.
So once the chat is going well, suggest meeting there, or somewhere nearby. Name a day. Keep it simple, like a drink after work or a coffee on the weekend. She has already told the app she likes the place, which makes it an easy yes.
If she stays vague twice, let it go and write to the next person who shares your spots. On happn there is usually someone else who likes the same places you do.
