Priority Likes come with HingeX, Hinge's top subscription. Every like you send stays toward the top of the other person's Likes You list for about a week, and after that it is treated like a regular like. They look exactly like regular likes, so only you know you sent one, and they switch on automatically when you subscribe.
How Priority Likes work
There is nothing to press. Once you are on HingeX, every like you send is a Priority Like. You do not choose which women get one, and you do not spend anything extra per like.
For roughly a week, your like sits toward the top of her Likes You list. After that it drops back to being an ordinary like, in the same place any other like would sit.
If you ever stop paying for HingeX, your likes go back to being regular likes. The feature lives with the subscription.
Why she cannot tell
A Priority Like looks the same as any other like on her screen. There is no badge, no icon and no hint that you paid. Only you know.
That is quietly one of the best things about the feature. a dating coach has never liked the loud version of this idea. He is skeptical of the Super Like on other apps, because announcing that you singled her out puts her on a pedestal before you have said a word. It can make you look eager, and it hands you extra work in the conversation that follows.
A Priority Like avoids that. You get the better placement without the announcement. She simply reaches your like sooner, reads it the way she would read any like, and decides on your page and your comment alone.
Why being near the top helps
It helps because women who get a lot of likes do not get through all of them.
coach makes this point about the apps in general. An attractive woman is shown to a huge number of men, far more than she could ever look at properly. The apps do not even want her wading through every one, because a happy, popular woman is what keeps everyone else paying. So she sees the likes at the top, answers a few, and the rest sit.
A like that stays near the top for a week has far more chances to be seen than one that slides down her list within an hour. For women with a short list, it makes little difference. For the women with long lists, which are often the women men most want to meet, it can decide whether your like gets read at all.
What a Priority Like cannot fix
Placement only gets her to your like sooner. It does not change what she finds when she gets there.
If your first photo is dark, blurry or cropped out of a group, a Priority Like just gets you skipped a little earlier. If your like has no comment, you have used your best placement to ask her to do all the work of starting a conversation. The feature works for a man whose page is already good and does nothing for one whose page is not.
It also cannot make her like your type. A woman who wants something you are not will pass on you at the top of her list just as quickly as at the bottom. Placement gets you a fair look. It does not change the answer.
Making the week count
Since every like gets the same treatment, the way to get more from Priority Likes is to make every like worth reading.
Read her whole page before you like it. Write a comment about one specific thing, a photo from a trip or an answer with an opinion in it, in a sentence or two. Keep your own page in shape so that when she taps through from your like, the first photo and your written answers hold up.
Then watch your matches closely during that week. When a like turns into a match, answer quickly and properly. The placement bought you her attention. A fast, specific reply is how you keep it, and a few good messages later, a clear suggestion of a place and a time is how you turn it into a date.
Are they worth paying for
You cannot buy Priority Likes on their own. They come as part of HingeX, alongside See Compatible People Sooner and Get Seen by More Daters, on top of everything in Hinge+. So the real question is whether HingeX as a whole is worth it to you.
My test works well here. Make sure the free version or Hinge+ is already getting you some matches, then try HingeX for a month and count what changes. If more of your likes turn into conversations, keep it. If nothing moves, drop it and put the effort into your page instead.
