What Order Do Likes Show Up in on Hinge?

When your Likes You tab is sorted by Recent, Hinge puts Roses first, then the single most recent like, then Priority Likes, then everyone else's regular likes. Hinge spells that order out on its subscriber help page. The newest like holds second place only until another one arrives, while Roses stay above all of them.

Here is the Recent view from top to bottom, as Hinge describes it:

1. Roses.
2. The most recent like, whether it is a Priority Like or a regular one.
3. Priority Likes.
4. Other likes.

Recent is one of the two views every member can pick for Likes You. The other is Your Type. You switch between them with the selector in the upper left corner of the tab, and subscribers get two more choices there, Last Active and Nearby.

Everything below describes the Recent view, because that is the one Hinge lays out.

Hinge's page on Roses says a Rose appears at the top of her Likes You screen, so the sender is impossible to miss. Its subscriber page adds that Roses carry a Rose icon and sit above Priority Likes.

So a Rose does two jobs at once. It wins the top spot, and it tells her you chose to spend one on her.

On the receiving end, accepting one is simple. Hinge says to tap on the person who sent the Rose, then tap the chat icon and either add a message or tap Match.

Members get a free Rose on a regular schedule. An unused free Rose does not carry over, while Roses you buy do not expire until you use them. That makes the free one worth spending every time, on the woman where being seen first would change the most.

Priority Likes come only with a HingeX subscription. Every like a HingeX member sends stays toward the top of her list for 7 days. Once those 7 days are up, Hinge treats it as a regular like.

She cannot tell. Hinge says Priority Likes look the same as regular likes, and that only the sender knows he sent one. In the Recent view they sit below any Roses and the newest like, and above the rest.

On the free version, your like is a regular like. For a moment it may be her newest one and sit near the top. Once another like arrives after yours, it drops below any Roses and any Priority Likes she has waiting.

You will not be able to watch any of this happen. Hinge says you can only see likes you have received, and once you send a like, you will not see that person again unless she matches with you.

That is why timing only gets you so far. A regular like that is not answered quickly spends most of its life in the bottom group. If you want a better spot with one particular woman, a Rose is the tool. If you want a better spot on every like you send, that is what HingeX sells.

Keep one more thing in mind. All of this describes the Recent view, and she may be using Your Type instead. That alone is a reason not to rest everything on placement.

Flip it around and the order tells you where to start. Roses are at the top because those women spent something to reach you, so look at them first. The newest like comes right after, and a fresh like is the one most likely to turn into a quick chat.

Free members view incoming likes one at a time, choosing to match or skip each. Hinge+ and HingeX subscribers see everyone at once. Either way, answer the good ones soon. A woman who liked you a week ago has had a week of other men liking her too.

Wherever your like lands, she still decides in a few seconds, on your first picture and a line or two of your answers. A top spot on a weak page just gets you skipped sooner.

What gets a reply is the comment. Hinge's own help pages say adding a comment to your like makes it more likely to get a response. a dating coach adds two rules for writing one. Shorter is generally better, so say it in fewer words if you can. And a comment on a prompt usually beats a comment on a picture, because it seems more genuine and less superficial.

So pick one line from her answers that nobody else would bother with, and react to it in a sentence. That comment will do more for you than any position in her list.
