JDate is still operating, and its help center says its matching filters out members who are no longer active. What nobody can give you is a trustworthy figure for how many Jewish women near you use it today. Popular is the wrong test. The right one is whether enough active women in your area fit what you want, and a free two-week trial tells you.
What we can say
JDate is a working dating service for Jewish singles, operated by Black Cap Holdings. Its help center describes it as a platform that has helped Jewish singles build relationships for years, and it keeps a public help center and named companies behind it.
It also says it introduces members from across its broader community of dating apps, so some of the women you see began on a sister app. For a man, that means the pool can be larger than the JDate name alone suggests.
What we cannot say
We cannot tell you how many members it has, how many are active this month, or how it compares with a year ago. Any article that gives a figure for that is guessing, and we will not.
Popular is a national idea. Active is a local one. A service can be well known and still thin in your city, or modest overall and busy where you live.
Why activity matters more
JDate says its algorithm focuses on quality over quantity by filtering out inactive members. In plain terms, the feed leaves out accounts that have gone quiet.
That helps you in one way and limits you in another. You see fewer dead pages. But if the active pool near you is small, the feed will be short, and no setting makes it longer.
The two-week test
You can find out on the free Basic membership.
- Fill in your page fully. The matching runs on what you tell it, so a thin page gets thin recommendations.
- Set your Preferences honestly, with a distance you would travel and an age range you would date.
- Use the app a short stretch most days. a dating coach says a little every day earns more than a lot all at once.
- Look at the Discover tab as well. It shows one profile at a time from outside your usual Preferences.
- After two weeks, write down how many women you Liked, how many Liked you back, how many replied and how many turned into a plan.
If the feed gave you plenty of women you would like to meet, it is active enough for you. If it ran dry in a few days, it is not, whatever its reputation.
Signs a page is alive
You can read activity from the page itself. The photos look recent. The words are specific. A blue verified badge means she verified herself with a selfie, which takes effort. JDate also says photos are reviewed before they appear.
A page with one old photo and no text is a poor bet.
What to do if the feed is thin
First check your Preferences. If the age range or the distance is much narrower than what you would really accept, you shrink your own pool for no reason. Widen them a little and look again.
Second, try the Discover tab. It shows women your filters left out.
Third, test a second app alongside it. My advice is to test two apps instead of six and keep the one that gives you more real conversations. A niche service is a good second app for a man who wants a Jewish partner, not a replacement for a large one.
Do not let a quiet feed fool you
A thin feed does not mean you did something wrong. But a feed that gives you Likes and no replies is a message about your page, not about JDate's popularity.
Put a clear, recent photo of your face in daylight first. Write two or three plain lines about what you want. And write each first message to one woman, with something specific from her page.
Then keep the exchange short. My approach moves a woman from the app to a plan in about four to seven messages and ends with a swapped number and a specific day.
The honest answer
JDate is operating, and it says it removes inactive members. Whether it is popular where you live is a question your own two weeks answer. If you see enough women you would like to meet, use it. If you do not, you have lost nothing but a fortnight.
