You are sitting in a bar at ten past eight with one drink in front of you, checking a phone that has nothing on it.
And the thing you keep coming back to is that the conversation was great. She was funny. She replied fast. She said she was looking forward to it. None of it fits.
That is because you were reading the wrong half of the conversation. Warmth tells you almost nothing about whether a woman will turn up. How she handles the arrangements tells you nearly everything.
Warmth and intent are two different things
Being friendly over text costs a woman nothing. It is pleasant, it fills ten minutes, and it does not commit her to an evening.
Agreeing to a specific place at a specific time is a different act. It puts something in her calendar, it means leaving the house, and it means being in a bar with a man she has never met. That decision is made somewhere separate from the part of her that enjoys the messages, and the messages do not tell you whether it has been made.
So the friendliest conversation you have this month is not your safest date. Plenty of women who reply within seconds for a week never had any intention of going, and plenty of women who text in three-word answers turn up on time, dressed up, and are excellent company.
The signals that actually matter
Watch what she does with the arrangements, not what she says about them.
She names things. You offer Thursday and she says "Thursday works, but I can't do before eight" or "I'd rather Friday, I'm useless midweek". Anything specific coming back from her side is the strongest signal there is. She is fitting you into a real week.
She asks about the place. Where is it, is it far from the station, is it the one near the park. These are the questions of a woman working out how she is getting there.
Her replies about logistics are faster than her replies about anything else. If the chat takes her four hours and the question about time takes her ten minutes, she is going.
She adds something to the plan. "I'll come straight from work so I might be in gym clothes." "Can we make it nine, I've got something before." Adjustments are commitment. She is not adjusting a plan she does not intend to keep.
The signals that she probably will not
Enthusiasm without a time. "Yes! Definitely! We should do that!" followed by nothing. If you have said a day and she has answered with excitement instead of a day, you have a compliment, not a plan.
Everything is left to you. You picked the night, the place, and the time, and she has agreed to all three without touching any of them. It can still happen, but she has kept the whole thing costless, and costless plans are the ones that get dropped when something else comes up.
She has not asked one practical question. No woman who is genuinely coming out to meet a stranger has zero questions about where she is going.
The last exchange was three days ago. A date agreed on Sunday for Thursday, with silence in between, is a date she has half forgotten. Not malice. Just distance.
The one message that settles it
The day before, send something short and specific.
"Still good for eight tomorrow? It's the place on the corner opposite the bank, I'll grab a table."
That is not a check-in and it does not sound needy, because it carries information. It gives her something to confirm rather than something to reassure.
What you learn is quick. A confirmation with any detail in it means she is coming. A short "yes" is usually fine. Silence for the rest of the day, after a conversation that had been moving normally, is your answer, and you should treat it as your answer rather than turning up hopefully and finding out in person.
If she cancels at that point, good. You got the evening back, and a woman who cancels the day before is more reliable than one who leaves you in the bar.
Do not try to make it certain
There is a version of this where a man, having been stood up once, starts managing the date like a project. Confirming twice. Asking if she is definitely still coming. Checking in on the morning and again at six.
Every one of those messages lowers the chance she comes. It puts the doubt into a woman who did not have any, and it makes the evening feel like an obligation before it has started.
One confirmation the day before, carrying real information. That is the whole procedure.
When it keeps happening
Being stood up once is ordinary. It is worth looking at when it is happening regularly, because at that point something earlier is going wrong.
Usually it is that dates are being agreed too late in a conversation, after a week or more of texting, by which point she has agreed to the idea of meeting rather than to a specific evening. Sometimes it is that the plan was never concrete enough to keep. Sometimes it is simply that too many days sat between the agreement and the night.
That whole stretch, from a match to a woman sitting opposite you, is the part most men are worst at and the part that no amount of profile work touches.
It is also the part you can hand over. One team runs the apps daily, keeps promising conversations moving while they are still warm, and does the work of turning interest into a firm date on your calendar, with the place and the time settled and confirmed. What you are looking for and who you actually want to meet stay yours. All you do is show up.
If your problem is that the conversations are not happening at all, fix the profile first. If the conversations happen and the evenings do not, that is a different problem, and it wants a different answer.
