After approaching a woman in public, wait until she has been enjoying the talk for a few minutes, then suggest something short, close and specific. "There is a good coffee place around the corner, come with me for twenty minutes" works better than "Do you want to hang out sometime?" Give her an easy way to say no, and if she cannot go now, take her number and name a real day before you part. Meeting women in person works best when the invitation is easy to accept, and this is how you make it easy.

Why an immediate date works

A talk on the street is at its warmest in the minutes right after it begins. By the time she gets home, the spark has cooled, and the number you collected sits in her phone next to a hundred other things.

An immediate date turns the warmth into time spent together while it is still there. It also saves you the texting stage, where most plans slowly fade. a dating coach and the coaches at Cold Approach teach this as part of the numbers-and-dates step: knowing when an immediate date makes sense is a skill, not a trick.

It also helps with nerves. A man who plans to ask for a number alone has to wait for a perfect moment. A man who is willing to ask for twenty minutes has a smaller ask, a clearer plan, and a very simple measure of how the approach went.

When the moment is right

Do not suggest it in the first minute. Look for these first.

  • She has been talking with you for several minutes and asks you things back.
  • She is relaxed, not checking the time.
  • She laughs and stays on a topic with you.
  • She is not obviously heading somewhere in a hurry.

If most of those are true, the talk has earned the invitation. A good rule of thumb is that she should have given you at least one real laugh and one real question before you suggest anything. If she is giving short answers or looking for an exit, ask for her Instagram at most, and let her go.

What to suggest

Smaller is better. A long evening is a big commitment from a stranger. A short, low-risk plan is easy to accept.

  • A coffee or a tea at a place within a few minutes' walk.
  • A short walk through the park or along the street.
  • A drink somewhere with other people in it.
  • A bite at a spot you can see from where you are standing.

Name the place and the length. "Come with me for twenty minutes, then you can go back to your day" is clear and costs her almost nothing.

How to say it

Be direct and warm, and phrase it as an invitation she can decline.

"I am enjoying this. There is a coffee place right there, would you like to sit down for a bit?" is plain and complete. You do not need a joke or a hook. Then stop talking and let her answer.

Avoid wording that makes her feel tested, like "Are you free right now or what?" Avoid vague plans, like "We should do something." And never block the way or keep stepping closer while you wait.

When she says she cannot go now

This is common, and it is not a no. She may be on her way to work or meeting a friend.

Say "No problem, I would like to see you again, what is your number?" Then name a day while you are still standing there. "Are you around Thursday evening?" gets a better result than "Text me when you are free." Plans with a day attached survive. Plans without one tend to disappear.

When she says no to the idea itself, take it well. "No worries, it was nice meeting you" and a friendly goodbye is the whole script.

Safety and comfort

A date with a stranger should be easy for her to leave. Pick a public place with other people. Let her choose the table, and do not pressure her to go somewhere private or far away. Keep your phone away and give her your full attention, because a short date works only if the twenty minutes feel like a real conversation and not a negotiation. A woman who feels safe with you says yes more often, and that is the main reason to do it this way.

Practice makes the invitation natural

Many men understand all this and still go quiet at the moment of asking. That is a nerves problem, not a knowledge problem.

At a Cold Approach Bootcamp in Miami and New York, the coach is next to you when you make the invitation, and gives you feedback right after. Numbers and dates is one of the four parts covered on every training day. It includes recognizing when an immediate date makes sense. The other three are approaching, attraction and delivery, and handling rejection. You do it live, in the field, rather than rehearsing it in your head.
