An instant date is a short coffee, drink or walk that starts right after a good street conversation, while the energy is still there. Ask when she is warm and engaged, keep the invitation small and specific, and start moving as soon as she says yes. If she cannot stay, take her number and spend five more minutes with her before you leave.

You do not need one from every approach. You need to recognize the ones where it fits.

Why it beats a number alone

A phone number is a delay. Between the street and the first text, she gets busy, cools down or forgets how good it felt. An instant date removes that gap and turns a short conversation into a real meeting.

The program a Cold Approach Bootcamp teaches covers this in its third part, numbers and dates: exchanging numbers or Instagram, texting toward a date, and recognizing when an immediate date makes sense. The skill is in the recognizing.

When it fits

Look at what she is doing, not at what you want.

  • She asks you questions back.
  • She stays in place instead of scanning for an exit.
  • She is smiling and not checking the time.
  • The conversation has an easy rhythm, with both of you talking.

When those are there, she is warm. Do not wait for a big emotional peak. A man who waits for the perfect moment often finds it already passed.

When to skip it

Not every good conversation needs to become a date. Skip it if she is clearly in a hurry, if she gives polite but flat answers, if she keeps stepping back, or if the place is too loud or rushed to talk. Taking a number and leaving well is a good result.

a dating coach says that a woman who is in a hurry makes a good interaction harder. If she has said she only has a few minutes, treat that as a limit to work inside, not a reason to push past.

The invitation

Keep it light, specific and small. You are not asking her to rearrange her day. You are giving her an easy next step.

  • "I was about to grab a coffee. Come with me for ten minutes."
  • "I am heading that way anyway. Walk with me."
  • "Let us sit over there for a few minutes and keep talking."

Avoid vague or heavy versions like "Do you want to hang out sometime?" or "Can I take you out?" They ask her to make a bigger decision than the moment calls for. A bounded invitation, ten minutes and a place nearby, is easier to say yes to.

Move as soon as she says yes

After she agrees, begin the transition yourself. Point, walk or say "this way." If you stand there waiting, the awkward pause does the damage, and she is left to work out the logistics.

Keep the first minutes easy. Talk about the place, the walk or what she is going to order. Do not interview her. If you have a free choice of where to go, pick somewhere close, quiet enough to talk and easy to leave.

If she says she only has a few minutes

Take the yes. Ten minutes on a bench or at a counter is better than a number alone. At the end, thank her and set up the next meeting while you are both still there: "I would like to see you again. When are you free this week?"

If she truly cannot stay, ask for her number or her Instagram and say you will be in touch.

If you take a number instead

a dating coach gives two rules for this case. First, make sure she has your number saved, and he suggests texting yourself from her phone so the text history exists and she sees your name. Second, stay about five minutes after the exchange. If you swap contacts and walk off right away, you look like what he calls the phone number bandit.

His reason is that the minutes after you have agreed that you like each other carry more comfort than the minutes before. A shorter conversation with five minutes after the number is usually more solid than a longer one where you left at once. It also gives her a taste of what a date with you will feel like: calm, normal and unhurried.

What to do on the instant date

It is a short first date, so keep it simple. Be relaxed and pay attention. Ask what she likes, tell a story or two and notice how she responds. If it is going well, you can extend it or plan a proper date. If it is flat, you spent half an hour, not weeks of texting.

Practice it with a coach

Judging when she is warm enough is a skill, and it is hard to learn alone, because you only see your own side of it. On a Cold Approach Bootcamp your coach is beside you in the field, watches how she responds and tells you afterward whether you moved too early or too late.

The Bootcamp runs in Miami and New York, as Group at a 3:1 ratio or Private for one, two or three days.
