Tap your photo in the top right corner, go to Settings, scroll down to Pause my account and confirm. While the account is paused you are invisible: you no longer appear in anyone's feed, and you show as an Unavailable Crush. Your messages and Crushes are saved, though you cannot open them until you come back. Logging in again switches the account back on by itself, which makes a pause the gentle way to step back from the dating apps without losing anything.
The steps
- Open happn and tap your photo in the top right corner.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down to Pause my account.
- Confirm.
Four taps, and you are out of sight until you decide to come back.
What other people see while you are paused
Once you pause, happn hides you. You stop appearing in other people's feeds, so nobody new comes across you while you are away. And you show as an Unavailable Crush rather than as an active account.
One thing to check if you pay for Premium. happn's pause instructions say nothing about your subscription, and the subscription is billed through the App Store or Google Play rather than through happn. So if you do not want to keep paying while you are away, cancel it in the store as well.
What is kept for you
Your messages and Crushes are saved while you are paused. You just cannot get to them until you log back in.
When you return, logging in reactivates the account on its own. Your old conversations are there, your Crushes are there, and you start again from where you left off rather than from nothing.
That is the whole advantage over deleting. The women you were talking to are still in your chats when you return, and you do not have to rebuild your account from the first photo up.
Pause or delete
Deleting is permanent. Every Crush and every conversation goes with it, and happn will not bring them back. Pausing keeps all of that and costs you nothing.
So the question is simple. Is there any chance you will want to use happn again? If the answer is maybe, pause. You can always delete later, but you cannot undo a deletion.
Delete when you are certain. You have met someone and it is going well, or you have decided happn is not for you. Pause for everything else.
Good reasons to take a break
Men pause for a few honest reasons, and each one is worth taking seriously.
The first is simply being worn out. The apps can start to feel like a chore, and a man who opens them out of habit writes flat, tired first lines. Those do him more harm than not writing at all. A couple of weeks away usually fixes that.
The second is a busy stretch at work or a trip. If you know you will not have time to answer anyone for a while, pausing is kinder than leaving women waiting on a man who has gone quiet.
The third is that you are seeing someone and want to find out where it goes. Pausing takes you out of sight without burning anything down.
The fourth is the best one. You want to fix things before you come back. Maybe your photos are old, or your chats keep stalling after a few lines. Pausing gives you time to take new photos and rework your page, so you come back stronger instead of repeating the same weeks.
Coming back to old matches
When you log back in, you have a set of saved Crushes and conversations that went quiet while you were gone. Treat them carefully.
Do not pick up where you left off as if no time has passed. Send a short, light line that nods to the gap and gives her something easy to answer. Keep it relaxed. There is no need to explain or apologize for the break.
Then move it forward. a dating coach takes a conversation from an app to a plan in four to seven messages. A chat that stalled once needs that even more, so suggest something simple and close by early.
If she does not answer, let it go. A few will. The rest have moved on, and that is normal. You have fresh photos, fresh energy and a feed full of new people, which is exactly why you took the break.
