Put yourself in places where women your age already are. Go back to the same ones every week. Say yes to every introduction, and start conversations in daylight even when you do not feel ready. You have more access in your 20s than you will ever have again, so the work is using it. The dating apps can help as an extra, but the women you meet through a routine, friends and plain conversation will teach you more.

Use the access you have

a dating coach makes a point that sounds obvious until you lose it. In school and your early 20s, you are surrounded by eligible women. Your friends are single, your coworkers are single, and everyone goes out. By your 30s and 40s, many friends are partnered and the nights out shrink, and you have to look for women on purpose.

So do not coast. Say yes to the party, the friend of a friend, the class and the group trip. Each one is a chance to meet someone you would never have met alone.

Build a weekly routine with women in it

A lot of men say they never meet anyone, and their week is home, work, gym, repeat. That week has no women in it.

Choose two or three things that put you near the same people every week.

  • A class: dance, climbing, cooking, a language.
  • A club: a running group, a rec league, a volunteer crew.
  • A study group or a work project, if you are still in school.
  • A regular coffee spot or bookstore.

Repetition does the work. A woman you have seen three times is far easier to talk to than a stranger, and by week four you are no longer approaching her. You are talking to someone you know.

Say yes to introductions

Tell your friends you want to meet someone. Most men skip this because it feels awkward. It is one of the most effective things you can do, because a friend's introduction comes with built-in trust.

Go to the party where you know two people. Talk to the friend of a friend. Accept the invitation even when you would rather stay home. The man who goes to ten parties meets more women than the man who plans the perfect approach.

Get your reps early

Nobody is naturally good at this. The men who are comfortable at 28 talked to a lot of women at 22 and survived the awkward ones.

Start conversations in daylight: at a coffee shop, in a park, at a bookstore. a dating coach's favorite places for daytime conversations are relaxed ones, like parks and outdoor shopping areas, because people there have time. Ask for numbers and ask women out before you feel confident. A rejection at 22 costs a minute of discomfort. Fear carried to 35 costs years.

Expect most of what you try to go nowhere. Judge yourself by how many times you tried, not by how many times it worked.

Open with the place you share

Skip the line. Comment on where you are.

  • "Is this class always this hard?"
  • "Have you been to this place before? What is good?"
  • "You seem to know everyone here. How did you get into this group?"

Then ask one real question and listen. If she answers warmly, continue. If she answers in one word, thank her and move on. Both outcomes are fine.

Use the apps as an extra

The apps can add a few conversations a week, and for a man in his 20s they are a fair supplement. Do not make them your only source. A man who only swipes gets no practice at talking to women in person, and in person is where he will have to perform on the first date.

Build a life worth meeting

Women are guessing what a normal week with you looks like. If your week is video games and takeout, there is not much to say. If you train, cook, play music, have good friends and a direction, you have texture, and conversation gets easier.

Pick one thing in each area this year. A skill at work, a lift you are working toward, a weekly dinner with friends. You do not need to be extraordinary. You need to be interesting enough that spending an evening with you is a pleasure.

Ask her out

When a conversation goes well, ask for a plan. Name a day and a place that is easy for her: coffee on Thursday, a drink on Saturday. Keep it casual and short. If she says yes, keep the plan simple. If she says no, thank her and move on. A no from one woman tells you nothing about the next one.

Do not wait until you feel ready

Most men in their 20s tell themselves they will start dating when they have a better job, more muscle or more money. Those things help, but they are not what stops you from meeting women. Fear and avoidance are. The only way to reduce them is to practice.

What it adds up to

In your 20s, the way to meet girls is to show up. Go to the same places, say yes, talk to people, ask for the date. You do not need to be smooth. You need to be there and willing to try.
