Open the Likes You tab, find her, and tap the Chat icon. From there you either send a message or tap Match. Either one makes the match, and she moves to your Matches tab, where the two of you can chat.
The steps
Hinge's help page gives the whole process in three moves:
- Go to the Likes You tab at the bottom of the screen and find her there.
- Tap the Chat icon.
- Type a message and send it, or tap Match.
A Rose works the same way. Hinge's page on Roses says to tap on the person who sent it, tap the chat icon, then add a message or simply tap the Match button.
Once you match, she moves from Likes You to your Matches tab. That is where the conversation happens from then on.
Free members see one like at a time
On the free version you view incoming likes one at a time and decide on each, match or skip. Hinge+ and HingeX subscribers see everyone who has liked them at once and can start with whoever they like.
Either way, a skip is hard to reverse. Hinge only lets you undo your most recent skip. Free members get a limited number of undos, shared across Likes You, Discover and Standouts. Subscribers can undo the last skip as many times as they like. So decide on purpose, and do not tap through the queue on autopilot.
When Hinge will not let you accept
Sometimes a man goes to accept a like and cannot. One Hinge rule causes exactly that: Your Turn Limits.
When too many people are waiting on your reply, Hinge stops you accepting new likes until you either answer someone who is waiting or end a chat. The rule applies to everyone with too many people waiting, subscribers included. Hinge shows a progress bar above your Matches as you get close, and a pop-up tells you once you have hit the limit.
Hinge says it built the rule because matches who never respond were one of the biggest problems it heard about from daters. So the fix is simple. Answer the women you actually want to talk to, and end the chats you have no plan to continue. Then the new like is yours to accept.
Match with a message, not the bare button
Hinge lets you match without writing anything. Skip that option.
She did the harder half by liking you first. If you match in silence, she finds you in her Matches with nothing said, and she has to start from zero. A short message sent with the match picks up where she left off.
If she commented on something, answer it and add a question back. If she did not, scroll her page and look for one unusual detail. a dating coach's method for a first message is to look through her whole profile for anything unusual he can comment on, and especially anything he can tease her about. A light tease works well here, because you are not starting cold.
What her like tells you
A like on Hinge lands on a specific part of your page, a picture or one of your answers. Which part she chose is information.
a dating coach makes this point about women who like one of his prompts. The prompt a woman picks says something about her. In one example, a woman liked his answer about integrity, which told him she probably wanted a bit more depth and connection. He still kept his reply light and fun. For any woman who compliments you or likes a prompt, he calls "thanks, you're not so bad yourself" a great way to start.
Keep that tone. Do not gush with thanks, and do not act as though the date is already booked. She has shown interest, nothing more. Be pleased, show it a little, and get on with being good company.
Get to a date while the interest is fresh
Hinge describes itself as the dating app designed to be deleted, built to get people off the app and out on dates. Take it at its word.
Interest on the apps cools fast. A woman who liked you this week may be talking to other men this week too, and each day of small talk hands one of them a chance to ask first. After a few good exchanges, suggest a specific place and a specific day.
Make it easy to say yes to. A drink after work or a coffee on a weekend morning, somewhere near her, beats a vague "we should hang out sometime".
When to skip instead
You do not owe anyone a match because she liked you first.
Match with women you would actually go out with. A match you never plan to meet takes up space in your Matches tab and can add to the people waiting on your reply, which is exactly what Your Turn Limits counts. It also wastes her time. A clean skip is the kinder choice, and it keeps your chats full of women you want to see.
