You can only get hints. Women who are interested but have not spoken to you often stay near you, find a reason to start a small conversation, or choose you for a small request. Those hints are worth acting on. But the only real answer comes from talking, and the best time to talk to her is today, whether or not you have seen any hint at all. On dating apps the order flips, because matches and messages come before any hello, but the test is the same: talk to her.
What the hints look like
a dating coach says many attractive women give men plenty of signals, and men miss most of them. A woman cannot easily walk up and say she likes you, so she shows it in smaller ways. Four are worth knowing.
She hovers. She stays in your area when she has no reason to. She lingers at the edge of your conversation, or she keeps ending up near you in a room. My advice is blunt: if a woman keeps hovering near you, say something. It is even less excusable not to talk to her.
She starts a conversation about nothing. She asks what time a place closes, which drink is good, or how to get somewhere. She is not looking for directions. She wants you to take the conversation somewhere. Do not answer in one word and turn away. Tease her a little, ask where she is from, and keep going.
She chooses you for a small favor. A group asks you to take a photo. A woman asks you for a light. She had a dozen people to choose from, and she chose you. That does not prove she is in love with you. It does mean she thought you were the safest and best option, and you can turn it into a real conversation.
She grooms in front of you. coach describes preening gestures as subconscious signs: fixing her hair, straightening her clothes, touching up her lipstick while you are around. These can mean interest, but they are weaker on their own.
None of these is certain. A woman can hover because she is waiting for a friend.
Do not wait for a hint
Here is the part many men get wrong. Even if no woman has given you a signal, you still go and talk to her if you like her. coach says this directly. A hint makes it more likely that the conversation goes well and lets you be a bit bolder. It is never a requirement.
If you wait for proof before you say hello, you will wait forever, because proof only arrives after a conversation. Treat the hints as a bonus, not a gate.
When to talk to her
Now, or as soon as it is easy. On the same day you notice her. Do not rehearse for a week, and do not wait for a better outfit or a perfect moment. Each day you wait adds weight to a small thing, and it becomes harder to do.
The easy moments are when she is alone, not in a hurry and not on a call. A woman waiting in line, browsing a shelf, or sitting at a cafe table is usually easy to approach. A woman with headphones in and a fast walk is not.
What to say, and what to talk about
Keep the first line simple and tied to the moment: something you noticed, a question about the place, or a plain statement that you wanted to say hello.
- "Hey, I noticed you reading that book. Is it any good?"
- "I'm new to this area. Do you know a good place for coffee near here?"
- "I thought you looked interesting, so I came over to say hi. I'm Mike."
Then talk about what is in front of you both: the place, the weather, what she is doing, what you were doing. Ask a question, listen, and answer one yourself. People often ask what women like to talk about, as if there were a secret list. There is not. She likes talking about whatever she finds interesting, which you learn by asking.
Keep it short the first time. A couple of minutes is enough. End on a good note and, if it went well, ask to continue: "I'd like to keep talking. Can I get your number?"
Once you are talking, the signals get easier
Inside a conversation, the signs are clearer. My list is short. She adds to the conversation more than she has to. She is comfortable when you touch her lightly, and she may touch you. She leans in. She asks questions about you. If she asks a question, that is a good sign: she wants the conversation to last at least until the answer.
Those are the signals worth watching. Before you speak, you are guessing. After you speak, you are measuring.
What if she does not like you?
Then you will know within a few minutes, and nothing is lost. A woman who is not interested will say so politely, or she will give short answers. You say "nice meeting you" and leave with your pride intact. That is a much better outcome than months of wondering.
The first few times, this is nerve-wracking. The fear fades with practice. It is a skill, and you get it by talking to women you like, one conversation after another, not by reading more about it.
Today
Pick the woman you have been wondering about. If you see her today, say hello. If you cannot, choose someone else for practice. Either way, you will stop wondering and start knowing.
