Keep it short, specific and a little playful. Whether you are texting her or writing on WhatsApp, flirting with your girlfriend means sending something that makes her smile. It should make her think of you. It is not a paragraph of compliments or a check on how her day is going. One good line, a callback to something only you two know, a bit of teasing, and then you let her answer. You have an advantage a stranger never gets: shared history to play with.

Why texts with a girlfriend go flat

When you were winning her over, every text had a job. You wanted her attention, so you thought about what to send. A few months in, the phone fills up with logistics. Who is picking up dinner, what time you will be home, did you see what her sister posted.

Nothing is wrong with that. But if logistics is all the phone ever carries, it starts to feel like a work chat with someone who also happens to live in your city. The fix is mixing a few texts into the week that exist only to be enjoyed.

What a flirty text sounds like

Specific beats general. "Miss you" is fine. "I am in a meeting thinking about how you stole the whole blanket last night and I am not even annoyed" is better, because she can see it.

A few shapes that work:

  • A small observation: "You wore the green jacket this morning. Good call."
  • Admitting you are thinking about her: "Slow day. Mostly I am thinking about getting home to you."
  • A question with some play in it: "Rank tonight's options: bad film on the couch, or me cooking badly."

Keep each one short enough to read at a glance. If she has to scroll, it stopped being flirting and turned into homework.

Tease her, kindly

Light teasing tells her you are comfortable with her and see her as a person with a personality, not someone you have to tiptoe around. "Still using the phrase five minutes like it means something" is a text she can roll her eyes at and enjoy.

The rule is simple. Tease her about something she would laugh at herself, never about something she is sensitive about. If she is stressed, tired or had a bad day, skip the teasing and send warmth instead. Read her mood by text the same way you would in person.

Use what you already share

A stranger has to start from nothing. You have inside jokes, places, nicknames and a long list of small stories. Calling back to one of them is the closest thing to a shortcut that a long relationship gives you.

"Found the restaurant where you tried to order for both of us in French." A single line pointing at a moment only the two of you know lands better than any clever line you could invent, because it shows you remember her.

Give her something to look forward to

Flirting by text works best when it points somewhere. A text that makes the evening feel like it has something in it does more than a text that only says hello.

"Wear the blue one Friday. We are going somewhere with terrible parking." A small plan stated with confidence, instead of "what do you want to do?", gives her a reason to smile at her phone all afternoon. You are putting a little anticipation into the day.

WhatsApp extras: voice notes, photos and reactions

WhatsApp gives you a few things plain text does not. A short voice note, said warmly, carries tone that typing cannot, and a quick "good luck today" in your own voice often lands harder than a paragraph. A photo of something that reminded you of her, with one line, tells her you were thinking about her without turning it into a speech. A reaction to something she sent is a small nod.

Use them sparingly. If every day brings a voice note and a photo, it becomes a routine she has to answer instead of something she looks forward to.

Keep it sexual only when she is with you

Playful and a little suggestive can be part of a good relationship, but let her set the level. If she picks it up, reply in kind. If she answers a suggestive line with a practical one, take the answer and move on without sulking.

Never push, never repeat it after a no or a deflection, and never send anything she has not asked for, photos included. Flirting only works when she feels safe and wanted. Pressure turns a spark into a chore.

What to leave out

  • Long walls of text that demand a long answer.
  • Checking in every hour, or "why are you not answering me".
  • Using a flirty line as a test ("do you even miss me?").
  • Sulking when she is slow to reply. She may be at work, with friends or in a meeting.

One or two good flirty texts in a day beat ten. Then back them up in person, because text only keeps the warmth alive between the times you see each other. It cannot replace actually noticing her when you are in the same room.
