There are two ways to lose a woman you were getting on with, and they are opposites.

You can ask too early, before she has any reason to say yes to a stranger, and get a polite no that ends the conversation. Or you can never really ask at all, and spend five weeks being pleasant to somebody you have never met until one of you gets bored.

Almost every man running his own apps fails in the second direction. It is the more comfortable failure, which is exactly why it is the common one.

Section 01

What too early looks like

Asking inside the first two messages is not confidence. It is a shortcut, and she reads it as one, because it tells her the invitation was not really about her.

She has no information yet. She does not know whether you are pleasant to sit across from, and a woman meeting a man from an app is taking on a small risk and a large chance of being bored. A few real exchanges are how that question gets answered well enough for yes to be a reasonable thing to say.

So asking too early usually collects a no from a woman who would have said yes on Thursday.

Section 02

What too late looks like

The other failure has no dramatic moment in it, which is why it goes unnoticed.

The conversation is good. It carries on. Something gets sent most days. Nobody ever suggests anything, and slowly it settles into a small daily habit that neither of you would describe as dating. Then she meets somebody in person, or the replies get shorter, and it is over without anyone having decided it was.

The men this happens to often had the best conversations going. That is the cruel part of it. Being genuinely enjoyable to talk to is what makes it possible to keep talking forever.

Section 03

The window is hers, and it moves

There is no message count that means it is time. Ten is not a rule and neither is three.

What there is, in almost any conversation going well, is a stretch where she has warmed up, has told you something she did not have to tell you, and has not yet settled into the routine. Inside that stretch an invitation is a natural thing rather than a jump or an interruption.

That stretch is short. It does not announce itself. And it closes.

Section 04

What says it is open

The signs are ordinary once you know to look for them.

She asks you things rather than only answering them. Her replies get longer than yours, or come back faster than they were coming back. She mentions something specific from her own week, which is usually an opening rather than small talk. She brings up a place she likes, or something she has been meaning to do.

Any one of those alone means little. Two or three in a row mean an invitation will land, and the right thing to do is make it now rather than after one more good exchange.

Section 05

How the ask itself goes

The invitation gets made in a way that is easy to say yes to, which mostly means doing the work for her.

It starts loose and specific at the same time. A particular thing, at a particular sort of time, rather than an open question about whether she might like to meet up at some point. Then the day gets pinned down. Then a place near her rather than near you, because the person who wanted it should be the one travelling further.

That order matters. Men often propose the meeting and then leave the logistics floating, and the conversation dies in the admin rather than at the invitation.

Section 06

When she says not yet

Plenty of women answer with something between yes and no. She is away. She is buried this stretch. She would rather talk a bit more first.

None of that is a refusal, and treating it as one is a mistake men make constantly. The conversation carries on warm, the specific plan gets put back down, and it gets picked up when she is back, with a day named rather than left open.

What does not happen is asking three times in a week. The difference between persistence and pressure is obvious to the woman on the other end, and only one of them gets answered.

Section 07

Why this is hard to run yourself

Everything above is a timing job, and timing is precisely what a busy week destroys.

The window in a good conversation opens on a Wednesday afternoon while you are in back to back meetings. By Friday night, when you finally have an hour and the energy to write something worth sending, it has closed and the routine has started. You did nothing wrong. You were simply not there at the hour when being there was the whole job.

Several conversations at once makes it harder again, because each has its own window and they do not line up.

Section 08

The short version

Not in the first two messages. Not in the fifth week. In the stretch where she has shown you something real and the routine has not set in, with a specific plan and a place near her.

That is a judgment call made over and over, at the right hour, across every conversation at once. It is work rather than a trick, and it is the single thing a busy man is least able to supply on his own.

Our team redoes your photos and your whole profile, then runs your conversations and asks at the point where asking works, until the evenings are on your calendar. Your first date within a week, or we keep working.

If your conversations keep running long and going nowhere, see if you qualify and we will go through how the Online Dating Concierge decides when to ask.
