A day's Top Picks last 24 hours. Tinder's help center says that after 24 hours the Top Picks screen refreshes with a whole different set of profiles, so a pick you skipped today is not waiting for you tomorrow. Extra picks you buy get the same clock: you have 24 hours to view or swipe them before they disappear.
What the 24 hours covers
Every Tinder user gets one free Top Pick a day. Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum subscribers are shown their whole set each day. Both run on the same 24 hour clock, and when it ends the screen is replaced, not topped up.
That makes Top Picks different from your main stack. Cards in the main stack come back around, or they do not, and you never think about it. A Top Pick is a daily offer, and the offer expires.
What happens to a pick you ignore
It is gone when the set changes. The help center describes a replacement, not a queue, so there is no pile of old picks to catch up on.
So a man who opens the screen once a week is not getting seven days of picks. He is getting whatever is up that day, and six days of picks he never saw. The cost of that is small if the picks are ordinary, and it is real if one of them was a woman you would have liked.
How long bought picks last
Gold and Platinum subscribers can buy more Top Picks at any time. Tinder's help center says those extras give you 24 hours to view or swipe them before they disappear.
The practical rule is to buy extras only on a day when you will use them right away. Buying a pack and opening it three days later wastes it. If you are about to go to dinner or get on a flight, the window will close without you.
Who gets picked, and why it changes
Tinder told TechCrunch that Top Picks are chosen from profile details such as education, job and interests, combined with your earlier swiping behavior. It also said the feature refreshes every day.
Your own swiping feeds the choice. That is a reason to like only the women you actually want, because your likes are part of what the picks are built from, along with what you do on the main stack today.
Use the window, do not guard it
The clock makes some men anxious. They open Top Picks, see nothing they love, and keep checking back in case Tinder redrew the cards.
It will not. The set holds for the full 24 hours. Open it once, at a time when you can give it five minutes. Look at each card the way you look at anyone on the main stack: her photos, what she wrote, and whether you have one specific thing to say. If you do, like her and write to her about that thing. If you do not, pass.
Subscribers who travel have one more use. Tinder says Gold and Platinum subscribers can use Passport to see Top Picks from around the world, so a trip is a good reason to look at the set for the city you are about to land in.
Is it worth paying for a bigger set
a dating coach's view on paid features is that most of them are multipliers. A multiplier helps only if you already have something to multiply, because a million times zero is still zero.
So check the free pick first. Over two weeks, note how many of the daily picks you liked, how many matched, and how many answered your first line. If none of them ever turn into a conversation, a bigger set will mostly show you more cards that go nowhere, and the real problem is your photos or your opening message. If a few of them turn into conversations, a month of the paid set is a cheap way to find out whether it raises that number. Cancel if it does not.
The short version
One free pick a day, a full set for Gold and Platinum, a different set after 24 hours, and 24 hours to use anything you bought. Look at the screen once a day, decide quickly, and write to the women you like while the window is open.
