You turn it off by setting your location back to where you actually are. Open Tinder, tap the profile icon, tap the Settings icon, scroll down and tap Location, then choose your current location. Tinder describes Passport as a way to move between your current location and new destinations, so coming home is the same action as leaving, only in reverse.

The steps

  1. Open Tinder.
  2. Tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap the Settings icon.
  4. Scroll down and tap Location.
  5. Choose your current location.

Passport lets you search by city or drop a pin on the map. Going back is the same screen. Nothing here is permanent, and Tinder says you can change your location as many times as you like.

You are only ever in one city

Tinder says you can virtually be in one city at a time. That is why Tinder's instructions describe Passport as a location you set, not a switch you flip. The cards you see belong to whichever city is set at that moment, so the way to stop seeing another city is to set a different one.

This matters in one practical way. If you are home and your evening cards look wrong, you have probably forgotten that Passport is still pointing elsewhere. The tell is unfamiliar neighborhoods and women who live somewhere you are not. Check Location before you assume the app is broken.

What happens to the women you liked while you were away

Tinder says that people you liked while using Passport may see your page for up to a day after you change your location. A woman who opens the app the evening after you came home can still find your card and like you back.

That window is short, and it affects what you should do before you switch.

Send your likes in one burst. Message the women who match with you while you are still in that city's time zone. And do not leave a dozen half-finished conversations behind. A chat with a woman you cannot meet for months is a slow way to learn that she lost interest.

Plan the switch around the date, not the plane

Men usually switch back when they land at home. A better moment is when the last real chance of a meeting in the other city has passed.

If you are leaving Friday and have a drink planned Thursday, keep Passport pointed at that city until Thursday ends. Then switch. If a conversation has no date attached by the time you leave, tell her plainly that you are away until a certain week and ask whether she would like to meet when you are back. Women respond well to a man who gives them a clear answer. "I am back in town the week after next, want to get a drink then?" is honest, specific and easy to say yes or no to.

Check that it worked

After you set your location, look at the first few cards. They should be women from where you actually live. If they still look like another city, open Location again and confirm what is set. It is an easy thing to get wrong when you are tired, and the cost is an evening spent looking at women you cannot meet.

Then read your conversations once. Any woman you matched with in the other city is still a woman in the other city. If you cannot be there soon, tell her kindly now, and free both of you.

Passport and the paid tiers

Passport is available as a standalone purchase and as part of Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum. If you only wanted it for one trip, you may not want to keep a whole tier afterwards.

Turning Passport off does not cancel anything. Switching your location back changes where your cards come from. It does not touch the billing. If you want to stop paying, that is a separate step, covered by Tinder's own cancel instructions for wherever you bought.

Use the trip as a test

A different city is a clean experiment. Your photos and bio are the same, but you are in front of a fresh set of women, so you can see how your page does with people who have never seen it.

Count how many matches you get in a few days there, and how many reply. If the number is healthy in a city of strangers, your page works and your home results are about the local pool or your timing. If it is weak in both places, the page is the thing to fix.

Either answer is more useful than guessing, and it only costs a few minutes of looking at your own numbers.
