Tap the Double Date icon on your Discovery screen or your Messages screen, invite the friend you want to pair up with, and then start swiping on other Double Dates. You can create more than one pair with different friends. Everyone involved has to be at least 18 and has to follow Tinder's Community Guidelines.

The steps, one at a time

Open Tinder and go to either Discovery, the screen where you normally swipe, or your Messages screen. Both have a Double Date icon.

Tap it and choose a friend to invite. Your friend needs to be on Tinder too, because the two of you will appear side by side to other pairs.

Once your pair exists, you swipe on other Double Dates the same way you swipe on individual people. When your pair and another pair both like each other, Tinder opens a group chat for the four of you.

Who can join a pair

The rules are short. You and your friend both need to be at least 18, and you both need to follow Tinder's Community Guidelines.

Double Date is only offered in select markets, so if you cannot find the icon, it may not be available where you live. Tinder also says premium features such as Boosts and Super Likes do not work with Double Date. A paid plan changes nothing about how your pair performs.

You can run more than one pair

Tinder lets you create more than one pair, each with a different friend. That can be useful. A pair with your quieter friend from work might suit a relaxed dinner, while a pair with your loudest friend suits a night out.

The catch is attention. Every pair brings its own group chats, and each one needs somebody to keep it moving. Two active pairs that you actually look after will do more for you than three that sit untouched.

Choosing which friend to pair with

The friend matters more than the settings. Women see the two of you together and judge the pair as one thing.

a dating coach has a warning about Friends that applies here. Men who go out with a Friend spend the night looking for two women who are both attractive, and that shrinks their options. A pair on Tinder has the same limit, because both of you have to like both of them.

So pick a friend whose taste is close to yours, who wants the same kind of dating you do, and who answers his phone. A friend who is funny in person but slow to reply turns every group chat into a one-man show.

Setting the pair up before you start

Spend five minutes with your friend before either of you swipes on anything. Agree on the kind of women you are both looking for, so you are not constantly arguing over pairs.

Agree on the plan, too. Pick one or two activities that would work for four people, so that when you match you can suggest something straight away. dating advice's advice on group outings is a good guide: something fun, a little active, with a natural end point, and away from rooms full of loud, competitive men.

Then look at your own photos and your friend's with a critical eye. On a pair card, the weaker set drags the stronger one down. If one of you has only dark bar photos and gym selfies, fix that before you ask women to judge the two of you together.

Your first message to a matched pair

Write to both of them, not just the one who caught your eye. a dating program's advice on meeting women in groups is that singling out one woman makes her friends feel left out, and she will side with her friends every time.

A good first message mentions something about both of them and then moves toward the plan. Say one of their photos shows them at a trivia night. Something like "You two look like you win trivia nights. We look like we lose them loudly. Thursday rematch?" is short, teases all four of you at once, and already contains a plan.

Keep the group chat light, and do not let it drift for a week. The longer four people chat without a date on the calendar, the more likely one of them loses interest and the whole thing quietly dies. So suggest the activity you already agreed on, name a day, and make it easy for four people to say yes.

If you and one of them click on the night, you can follow up with her afterwards. Double Date is at its best as a low-pressure way to get that first evening out, with a 1-on-1 date coming after it.
