Open the Tinder app, tap the profile icon and check the counter at the bottom of the screen. Tinder says that counter shows how many Boosts you have left. If you want more, you can buy them from Settings by tapping the Boost option.

Where the counter is

The counter is one tap away from the main screen.

  1. Open Tinder.
  2. Tap the profile icon.
  3. Look at the bottom of the screen for the counter.

That number is how many Boosts you have waiting. If it reads zero and you expected more, open your subscription details in the app. Tinder lists what your plan includes there, so look before you assume something went wrong.

Buying more from Settings

When the counter runs low, Tinder says you can buy more from Settings by tapping the Boost option.

Before you do, it is worth asking whether you need more at all. Many men buy Boosts in a burst of optimism and then leave them sitting unused for weeks. A counter reading three does nothing for you if none of them get used well.

If you do buy more, buy one or two rather than a big stack. A small number keeps you honest. You use each one on an evening you planned, you count what it brought in, and you only buy again once the last one has shown you something. A large pile of unused Boosts tends to get spent carelessly, on nights when you were never going to reply to anyone.

Check the count before you plan your week

Knowing how many Boosts you have lets you plan instead of guessing.

Look at the counter on Sunday. Then pick the evenings in the coming week when you will actually be home, free and on your phone. If you have two Boosts, give each one its own evening, with a few days between them.

In a dating coach's experience, a Boost after some days off the app beats one fired the night after another, because each extra one in a short span brings back less. So a small stock of Boosts is best spread out, not spent on three nights in a row.

Save them for evenings you are swiping anyway

A Boost only helps if you are around while it runs.

coach once suggested a Monday conference call as ideal cover: an hour you must attend and will never contribute to. You were going to lose that hour anyway, so a Boost and some swiping put it to use. Any evening where you are already settled on the sofa with your phone works the same way.

What does not work is starting a Boost and walking away. Whoever likes you while a Boost is live has the app open in her hand. If you are there to reply, the conversation starts warm. If you are not, most of those chances go cold by morning.

Spend one, then clear the results

coach keeps Boosts from piling up with one habit. He works through every match from the last Boost before he starts another.

That rule also tells you when to look at the counter. Not after every swipe, but after you have answered everyone from your last Boost. If there is one left and you have an evening free, that is the time to use it.

Write each opener around one thing she chose to show you, such as a place, a hobby or a joke in her bio, and keep it to a line or two. When the replies come back quickly, name a place and a night.

What the counter cannot tell you

The number on the screen tells you how many Boosts you have. It does not tell you whether they are worth using.

Keep a note of how many matches each Boost brings in, compared with an ordinary evening. Follow those matches through to real conversations and dates. After a few Boosts, you will know whether they earn their place for you.

If they clearly beat an ordinary evening, keep a few in stock and time them well. If they barely move anything, more women saw your page and passed. My point about paid extras applies here: they enlarge whatever result you already have, and a small result enlarged is still small. Fix your first photo and your written lines before you buy more, and let the counter sit for a while.

The short answer

Tap the profile icon and check the counter at the bottom of the screen. Buy more from Settings through the Boost option if you need them. Then spread the ones you have across evenings when you will be on the app, and answer everyone each Boost brings in before you use the next.
