Open your Chats tab, where Bumble keeps all your conversations and active matches. Bumble lets you filter your chats there to show unread messages, recent messages, or messages from members nearby, so a long list shrinks to the few women who need an answer from you.

What Bumble's help page says

Bumble's support page on conversations describes the Chats tab as the place where all your conversations and active matches are stored. Once you match with someone, she appears in the "Your Matches" section, and you tap her photo to start talking.

The same page names three ways to filter your chats: unread messages, recent messages, and messages from members nearby. It names the filters without spelling out every tap. That is the whole feature. What matters is how you use it.

Why a long list costs you dates

A long Chats tab feels like success. Usually it works against you.

Twenty half-finished conversations means twenty women getting slow, thin replies from you. The ones who were most interested drift off while you answer someone who sent "haha" three days ago. And matches you never opened quietly run out of time, because on Bumble a match expires if no opening message goes out in time.

The filters are a way to fix that, not just a way to tidy up.

Unread: who is waiting on you

Start here every time you open the app. The unread filter shows the women who have written and are waiting for your answer.

These are your warmest leads, because each of them just put in some effort. Answer them first, and answer well: respond to what she said, add something of your own, and leave her an easy reply. A good message to a woman who just wrote to you is worth more than a clever opener to a match who has not spoken yet.

Recent: keep the live ones going

The recent filter shows the conversations with the most recent activity. Use it to see which chats are actually alive right now.

A live chat should be heading somewhere. If you have gone back and forth for a while and there is real interest, this is where you suggest a voice note, a video call, or meeting in person. Chats that sit in the recent list for a week without a plan tend to fade on their own. Push them forward while they are warm.

Nearby: the women you can actually meet

This is the most underrated of the three. The nearby filter shows messages from members close to you.

Distance quietly decides a lot of first dates. A woman forty minutes away, with no easy place to meet in the middle, is a harder date to set up than one ten minutes from you, however well the chat is going. When your list is long, put your best effort into the women you could realistically meet this week. Logistics are part of attraction whether anyone admits it or not.

Your Matches: where new matches land

Once you match with someone, you will find her in the "Your Matches" section. New matches there are the ones most likely to disappear without you noticing.

Each of them is on a clock. On Bumble, you and she each get one opening message, and if neither of you sends one within the time Bumble allows, the match expires. So a match you meant to get to later is often a match you simply lose.

Clear this section quickly. An opening message does not need ten minutes of thought. Look at her page, find one thing she chose, say something about it, and give her an easy reply. Aim to write it in under a minute. Men who agonize over every first line send a handful and lose the rest to the timer. Men who have a simple, repeatable way to open send one to every match they actually want, and they get more replies to work with.

Clear out what is dead

Filtering shows you where to focus. It also shows you what to let go.

Some conversations have not moved in weeks and are not coming back. You can leave them where they are, or you can unmatch, which removes the chat from your side and prevents further contact. Bumble treats an unmatch as permanent, so only do it when you are sure. Do not unmatch a quiet chat just to make the list look cleaner. One light follow-up sometimes brings a woman back.

Then keep a simple routine. Open the app and check unread first, then recent, then nearby. Answer the women waiting on you, push the warm chats toward a call or a date, and give the nearby matches a real message. That takes fifteen minutes on most days.

The men who get dates from Bumble are not handling more conversations than everyone else. They are handling fewer, better, and they can see at a glance which ones deserve their time.
