You might. Raya's About page says that if your membership has expired, you may be asked to reapply, because neither renewal nor readmission is automatic. So a lapse is not a harmless break. It can put you back at the start, with an application to send and a decision to wait for.
What Raya actually says
The line on the About page is short, and the word that matters in it is "may".
Raya is not saying every lapsed member gets sent back to the queue. It is saying you cannot count on walking straight back in. Getting accepted once does not promise you a place after the membership has ended.
The sensible way to read that is to plan for the worse case. If you let your membership expire, assume you will have to apply again, and decide whether you can live with that before the date arrives. If Raya lets you back in without it, good. If it does not, you were ready.
How a membership lapses
A Raya membership renews automatically through your Apple account. It lapses when you turn that renewal off and let the period you paid for run out.
Raya's App Store listing says a cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and its About page says you can keep using Raya until your billing cycle ends. So nothing changes on the day you switch the renewal off. The change comes on the last day of the period, and that is the day the warning about reapplying starts to matter.
That gap is useful. It gives you time to change your mind, and time to finish what you started on the app before the membership ends.
A lapse is not a pause
Men often let a membership run out when what they really want is a quiet month.
Raya has tools for that. Its terms describe a hide feature and a paused account status that members can use at any time. Both keep the conversations you already have, and both stop new members from seeing you. Those are things a member does. A lapse is different in kind, because the membership itself ends.
So be honest about which one you want. If you are seeing someone new, traveling for a month or buried at work, and you expect to want Raya again, hiding or pausing fits better than walking out and hoping the door is still open later. If you are genuinely done with Raya, let it lapse and do not look back.
When letting it run out makes sense
There are good reasons to stop paying.
The best one is results. Count the dates Raya actually gave you over your last period, not the likes and not the chats that went nowhere. a dating coach's view of anything you pay for on the apps is that it has to change what happens, and he says to test it rather than refuse it or trust it blindly. The change that counts is dates. If Raya gave you none, the risk of having to reapply is not much of a loss.
A relationship that has turned serious is another good reason. If you will not use Raya for a long time, paying to hold a spot you will not touch makes little sense, and reapplying one day is a fair price for that.
The weak reason is a bad week. A slow few days after a run of interest is normal on any app, and letting a hard-won membership go because of one quiet stretch is a decision you may regret.
Move your best conversations off the app first
Whatever you decide, deal with your conversations before the period ends. Once the membership is gone, you cannot count on reaching anyone through Raya again.
a dating coach puts the goal of any app conversation plainly: the point of messaging on a dating app is to get off the app and onto a date. His order is simple. Get a loose agreement to meet ("we should grab a drink sometime"), swap numbers, and carry on by text.
Go through your open chats a week or so before your membership ends. If a woman has been warm, suggest a plan now and ask for her number. If a chat has been dead for weeks, let it go. The aim is that nothing you care about depends on an app you are about to lose.
If Raya asks you to apply again
Treat it as a fresh application, not a formality.
A lot may have changed since you first applied. Update anything that is out of date, make sure your photos show you as you look now, and apply when you actually have time to use Raya, not on a slow evening when you are bored. If your membership lapsed because Raya was not working for you, fix whatever was not working before you ask to be let back in. Otherwise you are paying again for the same result.
