They can disappear from your screen, but an ordinary like does not run out on a timer. The common reasons a like vanishes are that the other person deleted her account, ended the match, or that a clock on a related feature ran out. Hinge says a like you can no longer see means the sender deleted her Hinge profile.

Likes you sent

On Hinge, a like you send takes that woman out of your Discover feed. She stays out until she responds, and you cannot see the profiles you liked until those members choose to match with you.

This feels like the like went away. It did not. It is waiting on her side.

The effect is a one-look rule. You see her once and get one comment, so read her page carefully before you tap.

Likes you received

Likes that come to you sit in a place you have to open. Tinder's Likes page, which shows who already liked you, is available to Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum subscribers. Bumble has a Liked You tab, and seeing everyone there requires Premium.

On Hinge, free members see one incoming like at a time and choose Match or Skip. Hinge+ and HingeX subscribers see everyone who liked them at once.

None of these names a deadline for an ordinary like. They wait until you act or until the woman leaves.

The timers that do exist

Two clocks are real, and neither is a like.

Hinge says each Most Compatible suggestion expires after 24 hours. That is a recommendation, and it lasts a day.

Bumble says a match expires if no one sends a message within 72 hours. That is a match, not a like, but it is the one men blame when a woman seems to have vanished.

If a Most Compatible woman interests you, send the like the same day. If you matched on Bumble, send the first message inside the window.

Likes, matches and dates are different things

A like is a request. A match means both people agreed to talk. Neither one is a date.

Men who keep score by likes end up measuring the wrong thing. A long list of likes received feels like progress, and a long list of likes sent feels like effort, but neither tells you how many women you will sit across from this month.

The number that counts is conversations that turn into a date. If a like goes missing, you have lost a request, not a date, and the loss is small. The next like costs the same few seconds.

Why a like seems to disappear

Several things look the same on the screen.

  • She deleted her Hinge profile, so her like is no longer visible to you.
  • On Bumble, a deleted or blocked account is removed from your matches.
  • On Tinder, Tinder says a match that disappears most likely means the other person ended it or deleted her account.

You usually cannot tell which of these happened, and none of them is a comment on you.

What to do about it

Treat likes as perishable even though they do not expire. A woman who likes you is on the app now, talking to other men, and she may go out with one of them while your like sits unanswered.

Women on dating apps are there to go on dates, not to wait. Check your likes during your short sessions, answer the ones you want first, and do not let an unread pile become the reason you meet nobody.

When you send a like, make it specific. Pick a particular photo or answer and add a comment. A like with no comment gives her nothing to respond to.

In each short session, clear the incoming likes first, then spend the rest of the time on women you picked yourself. An answer sent the same day reads as interest. One sent a week later reads as an afterthought, and she has usually moved on by then.

If a like never turns into a match, let it go. You cannot see it again, and the next woman is a better use of the same minute.
