Boo gives a temporary ban when something on your page or in your posts breaks its Community Guidelines, or when other users report you. For 24 hours you cannot send messages, post or comment, and after that you can use the app as normal. If you think the ban was wrong, you can appeal by emailing hello@boo.world.

What the ban stops, and for how long

A temporary ban on Boo stops three things: sending messages, posting and commenting. It lasts 24 hours. When the time is up, you can use the app as normal again.

So it is a pause, not the end of your account. Treat it as a chance to look at what caused it, because a second ban for the same thing is a sign you did not.

The two routes to a ban

Boo names two causes. The first is breaking its Community Guidelines, through what is on your page or what you post. The second is other users reporting you.

The first one you can check yourself. Read Boo's Community Guidelines, then look at your own account with fresh eyes: your photos, your written answers, anything you have posted or commented. Ask whether a stranger scrolling past would find any of it offensive.

The second one is about how you come across to other people. A report is someone's reaction to you, and most often it is a reaction to a message.

Appealing the ban

If you believe the ban was a mistake, you can appeal by emailing hello@boo.world. Keep the email short and calm. Say which account it is, and explain in a few sentences why you think the ban was wrong.

An angry essay does not help. Neither does guessing who reported you and blaming her. If you are honestly not sure whether you crossed a line, the more useful thing is to spend the day working out whether you did.

What usually gets men reported

The things that get men reported on dating apps are rarely dramatic. They are usually things the man thought were harmless.

Being edgy in the wrong way is the first. a dating coach pushes men to be memorable in what they write, and in the same breath warns that memorable is not the same thing as rude or offensive. A line that reads as an insult to half the women who see it does not make you memorable. It gets you reported.

Going sexual too early is the second. A first message about her body, or a joke that would only land after three dates, reads very differently from a stranger.

Not taking no is the third. Messaging again and again after she stopped replying, or arguing with a woman who turned you down, turns a quiet no into a report.

Pasting the same message to everyone is the fourth. coach remembers an early dating site that suspended accounts for sending one copied message over and over. Whatever Boo's own rules say about it, an identical line sent to dozens of women looks like spam to the women getting it.

Use the 24 hours well

You cannot message for a day, so use the day. Reread your written answers and your posts against the guidelines, and change anything that is close to the line. Then open your last few conversations, especially the ones where a woman went quiet, and read your own messages as if a stranger had sent them to you.

If something there makes you wince, you have probably found the cause. Fix it now, while you cannot send anything anyway.

A report is feedback, even when it stings

It is tempting to decide whoever reported you was oversensitive, and sometimes that is true. But a report is also the most honest feedback a dating app will ever give you. Most women who dislike a message just stop replying, and you never learn why.

So if you got a ban from a report, take it seriously even if you disagree. Ask a friend you trust, ideally a woman, to read your last few openers and tell you how they would land from a stranger. What sounds like a harmless joke in your head can read very differently on a small screen with no tone of voice. Changing one or two lines now is much cheaper than a reputation for them.

Stay on the account you have

Do not open a second account to get around a ban. It turns a one-day pause into a much bigger problem, and it does nothing about whatever caused the ban in the first place.

Wait out the 24 hours. When your account is back to normal, start fresh conversations the way that works on every app. Pick one specific detail from her page. Write a line about it with a bit of personality. Suggest a plan within a few messages. Messages like that give nobody a reason to report you.
