Missed Connections is a Tinder feature that shows you people you may have crossed paths with in real life. They arrive once a week as a Drop at the top of your Explore screen, on Sunday evening local time, in select markets on Android and iOS. The only way to reach someone from a Drop is the normal way: you Like them, and it goes further only if they Like you back, just as with any other swipe.
How a Drop is built
Tinder builds each Drop from device location data. It looks at who was close to you around the same time during the past week, and it puts some of those people in front of you.
So the people in your Drop are not random. They are people whose phones were near yours at roughly the same moment. Maybe you both had lunch on the same street, or you both walked through the same station on Tuesday morning. You will usually have no idea which moment it was, and that is fine.
Where to find it
The Drop appears at the top of your Explore screen. Tinder sends it every Sunday evening, local time, and it is offered in select markets on Android and iOS.
If you never see a Drop, the feature may simply not be available where you are. It is not a sign that anything is wrong with your account.
What you can and cannot do with it
A Drop does not open a back door. You cannot message someone just because they appeared in it. You Like the person the way you would Like anyone else, and if they Like you back, you match.
That rule keeps the feature from being strange. Nobody gets a message out of nowhere from a man who happened to be near them. Both people have to want it, exactly as they would anywhere else on the app.
Why a shared place is a good start
People in a Drop share something with you before either of you says a word: you move through the same parts of the same city. That usually means a similar routine, similar neighborhoods and a good chance that a date would be easy to arrange.
Distance kills plenty of promising conversations. A woman who lives forty minutes away has to decide whether the trip is worth it. A woman whose day runs past yours does not face that choice, so saying yes costs her less.
Treat the Drop as a short list worth a closer look. Read each page properly instead of flicking through it. If someone catches your eye, Like her.
Who gets the most out of it
Missed Connections suits men whose week takes them through busy places. If you commute through the center of a city, train at a crowded gym or spend weekends in popular neighborhoods, there are simply more people you may have crossed paths with.
If you work from home in a quiet suburb, you will cross fewer paths, so expect less from it. That is not a problem. Treat it as a small extra on top of the main app, not as your main source of dates.
Either way, the Drop only gives you a reason to look. Whether she Likes you back still depends on your photos and the few lines you wrote about yourself.
What to say once you match
Do not open by guessing where you crossed paths. You do not know, and a line like "I think I saw you at the gym" is more likely to unsettle her than charm her. Keep the overlap as a light, friendly hint at most.
Something like "Apparently we've crossed paths this week. I'm choosing to believe it was at the good coffee place and not the dentist" works well. It names the feature, keeps it playful and gives her something easy to answer.
After that, treat her like any other match. Ask a real question, share something about yourself, and suggest a plan while the conversation has some life in it. Being local is your advantage, so use it: a specific place nearby, a day and a reason.
Keep it relaxed
Missed Connections works best when you do not make too much of it. The Drop is a nudge that says these people live some of their life near yours. It is not fate, and it is not a secret.
If a woman from your Drop does not Like you back, nothing happened. Move on to the next page. And if you would rather not appear in other people's Drops at all, Tinder lets you switch the feature off in your settings. Leaving it on and using it well, though, is one of the easier ways to find women whose lives already sit close to yours.
