The advice sounds obviously right. Be on more apps, meet more women. So a man downloads a third and a fourth, spends a Sunday setting them up, and six weeks later is doing worse than when he had one.

That is not bad luck and it is not the apps being broken. It is what happens when attention gets divided by four and there was not enough of it to begin with.

Section 01

Why the fourth app makes it worse

Adding an app does not add hours to your week. It splits the hours you already had.

You were spending twenty minutes a day on one account. Now the same twenty minutes covers four, which is five minutes each, which is barely enough to open them. Three of the four go days without being touched. The one you like best gets whatever is left, and it gets it late at night, badly, while you are tired.

Meanwhile every one of those four profiles is public. A woman who looks you up sees an account that has not been active in a week, or a message you answered three days after she sent it. More apps did not mean more chances. It meant the same amount of effort spread thin enough to look like indifference everywhere.

Section 02

What alive actually means

An account is alive when somebody is doing three things on it, most days.

Working through who has shown interest, and deciding quickly. Answering the conversations worth answering while they are still warm, which means hours rather than days. And asking, at the point where an exchange has earned it, for a specific evening in a specific place.

That is the entire job, and none of it is hard. It is just relentless. Skip the first one for a few days and the good matches expire underneath the bad ones. Skip the second and a woman who was interested on Monday has forgotten you by Thursday. Skip the third, which is the one men skip most, and you have a phone full of pleasant conversations with women you will never meet.

Multiply that by four accounts and you are not running dating apps any more. You have a second job with no pay and no days off.

Section 03

Four inboxes is not one bigger inbox

The other thing men underestimate is that the apps do not behave the same way.

The profile that works in a fast stack is not shaped like the profile that works where women look at fewer men and look harder. The first photo that should lead in one room is often the wrong lead in another. What she is on there for differs by app, which means the opening message that lands on one reads as wrong on another.

So a man doing this properly is not maintaining one profile in four places. He is maintaining four, each with its own ordering, its own written lines, and its own way of opening. Nobody with a real job does that for more than about three weeks.

Section 04

The rotation you promise yourself

There is a standard plan and it always fails the same way.

Monday and Thursday on this one. Tuesday on that one. Weekends on the others. It holds for a fortnight. Then a week gets busy, one app goes untouched for nine days, and when you finally open it there are forty stale likes and two conversations that died on your side. It feels like starting over, because it is.

The failure is not discipline. It is that any schedule built on leftover evenings breaks on the first bad week, and bad weeks are not rare.

Section 05

Which apps are worth being on at once

If somebody else is doing the work, the answer is more than most men run.

The mainstream apps are worth being on together because the women on them overlap far less than you would think. And if the selective side is where you want to be dating, Raya, The League, Luxy and Inner Circle sit alongside the mainstream ones rather than replacing them. One honest note about those: a team runs the accounts you already hold. Nobody gets you admitted to an invite-only app, and anybody promising that is describing something that does not exist.

Being on four only helps if four stay alive. Otherwise two well-run accounts beat four neglected ones, every time.

Section 06

What changes when it is somebody's job

The whole calculation flips when the daily work belongs to somebody who is awake for it.

Every account gets worked during the hours that matter rather than at eleven at night. Interest gets read and filtered against what you actually said you wanted, on all four, the day it arrives. Conversations get answered while they are still warm. The ones going somewhere get turned into an evening on your calendar with a time and a place.

The per app differences stop being a burden and start being an advantage, because now somebody is shaping each profile for the room it sits in instead of copying one layout across all of them.

And the failure mode disappears. There is no week where everything went quiet because you were in back to back meetings, which is the exact week that used to undo the previous month.

Section 07

The honest test

If the reason you are on one app is that you enjoy running it, keep running it and get better at it.

If the reason you are on one app is that four was too many and you gave up, the problem was never the number. It was that being present every day is what these things reward, and presence is the one thing a busy man does not have to give.

The Online Dating Concierge is the version where that stops being your problem. Our team rebuilds your photos and your whole profile, runs every app you want to be on, and carries the conversations worth carrying to dates on your calendar, aiming at 2-3 dates each week. Your first date within a week, or we keep working.

If you are already on four apps and three of them have been dead for months, bring that to the application. It is the most common situation there is, and it is the one this was built for.
