Yes, but as two separate apps that do not talk to each other. One version serves daters in the United States, Canada and other areas that use +1 country codes. The other is the Worldwide community, which serves everyone without a +1 country code. Which one you are on depends on where you are, and you cannot match across the line.

For a man outside North America, that is mostly good news. You have a working app, and the people in it are also outside North America. It also settles a question men ask in the wrong order: the app is not the thing to figure out first. Where the women are is.

The two versions

Coffee Meets Bagel runs one app for +1 daters and one for its Worldwide community. The Worldwide version is listed in the App Store and Play Store as Coffee Meets Bagel Dating App, and daters without a +1 country code stay on it.

The company says it no longer supports matches or chats between daters in +1 regions and daters in other international regions. A man in Toronto does not match with a woman in Madrid. A man in Madrid does not match with a woman in Chicago.

Inside the Worldwide community, the walls are lower. Daters in different non +1 countries can still match and chat, so a man in Singapore can match with a woman in South Korea. Whether that is useful to you is a separate question, and the rest of this article gets to it.

How the app decides where you are

Your location on Coffee Meets Bagel is based on where you are physically present. It does not come from the city you typed into a form.

To update it, go to Settings, then Edit Profile, and tap your location after turning on location services. Once you refresh, it stays at the new place, and the old location is not available again unless you return to it. So refresh on purpose. Doing it from a hotel room on a work trip can move you out of the pool you wanted.

What happens when you travel

Travel into a +1 country and the app does not let you refresh your location to date locally there. You can keep connecting with people from your last location. A man on a long trip to the United States keeps talking to the women he already matched with, and does not start meeting new ones there.

The rule underneath is that the app follows your body, not your plans. Where you are standing when you refresh is where you are.

Language is separate from location

The app can be switched to another language from the globe icon on the welcome screen or from the language button in settings. This changes only your own experience. It does not change what your matches see, and it does not change which version of the app you are on.

A man who switches to a language he is more comfortable in has not moved himself to a different dating pool. He has only made the buttons readable.

Why location matters more than the app

a dating coach's first rule for dates that come out of dating apps is to put the date near your place, ideally within walking distance, because a date that is easy to extend is a date that can go well. A woman in another country can be a fine conversation, but she is not a date, and no amount of good messaging changes that.

So the useful test is simple. Open the app, look at who you are being shown, and ask whether you could meet any of them this week. If the honest answer is no for most of them, your location setting is the problem, not your photos or your first line.

If the pool near you looks thin, run a second app alongside this one and keep your messages short enough that a woman can answer in one line. The point of any app is a plan to meet within a few days, and a long chat with a woman who lives far away does not get you that.

A quick checklist

Check that you are on the right version for your region. Refresh your location when you actually move, and not before. Do not expect a match across the +1 line to work, because the app does not allow it. And when you do match with a woman nearby, ask her for a specific evening instead of continuing the chat.
