Watch what she does over several weeks, then ask her. Behavior tells you which way she's leaning: whether she makes time for you, brings you into her life, and talks about a future with you in it. But no single sign proves it, and the only reliable answer is a plain conversation where you say what you want and believe what she says back.
Signs she's moving toward a relationship
Dating advice sites list a lot of these. The ones that show up on more than one list are the ones worth trusting.
- She makes time for you, even when her schedule is full, and she's often the one who starts the texts or calls.
- She's curious about your life. She asks about your family, your friends and your work, and she remembers small things you told her.
- She wants you in her world. She brings up meeting her friends or family, or wants to meet yours.
- She talks about the future with you in it. Trips, plans further out, or "we" instead of "I" when she talks about what's coming.
- She checks on exclusivity. She asks whether you're still seeing other people or using dating apps, or she tells you she has deleted her own.
- She lets you see the unpolished version. She shares a hard week, not only the good parts, and she doesn't need to look perfect around you.
- She tells you. If she says she likes you or cares about you, one list calls that one of the clearest signs.
Signs she's keeping it casual
Casual doesn't have to look cold. She can be warm, funny and affectionate and still not be looking for more. Mostly it's the list above running in reverse, and a woman can enjoy sleeping with you, texting you and spending weekends with you without wanting a relationship:
- She appears when it's convenient for her and goes quiet when it isn't.
- Weeks in, you still haven't met anyone in her life, and she doesn't ask about yours.
- She steers away from any talk about where this is going, or answers with "let's just see."
- She enjoys your company and the attention but never moves toward what you want.
One advice columnist put it bluntly to a man in this spot: you can't decode her reasons or change her mind by staying involved. If the behavior stays the same for weeks, the behavior is the answer.
Don't read one sign by itself
Eharmony's advice is to look for a consistent trend instead of one text or one night. Does she start more conversations lately? Does she create reasons to be alone with you? Is there more flirting, touch and openness? Closeness alone doesn't mean romantic interest, so don't treat one friendly moment as an answer.
Interest and readiness are also two different things. A woman can like you a lot and still not be ready for a label. That's why behavior over time matters more than any single moment.
Make your own intention visible first
If you're dating with a purpose, don't hide behind "let's see where it goes" for three months and then act shocked when she assumes you're casual. You don't need a speech. You need to act like a man who wants something real: consistent dates, plans made ahead, and a bit of openness about how you feel.
After a few good dates, say it once, simply:
"I'm enjoying this, and I'm open to building something real if we keep clicking."
That tells her what you want without asking her to commit that night. How she answers tells you plenty.
Ask her directly
When the signs are mixed, stop guessing and ask. Keep it calm and short, and say it in person or on a call instead of a long text.
- "I like spending time with you. What are you looking for right now?"
- "I'd like this to turn into a relationship. Is that something you want, or are you keeping it casual?"
- If she told you before that she wanted to keep it casual: "You told me you wanted to keep things casual. Has anything changed for you?"
Then do the hard part: believe her answer. A columnist responding to a man whose casual partner kept saying no to a relationship noted that she'd been clear and consistent, and that pushing could cost him the connection he had. If she says casual, the choice is yours: keep it casual knowing that, or walk away. What you shouldn't do is stay and hope she changes her mind.
What to do with her answer
- She says she wants a relationship: Good. Let your actions show it over the next few weeks. Plan the dates, follow through, and don't push for a label she hasn't offered.
- She says she isn't sure: That's an honest answer. Give it a short window, a few weeks, and watch what she does. Don't wait indefinitely.
- She says casual: Believe it. If you want more than that, end it kindly. One columnist suggested naming the feeling accurately: you aren't confused, you're disappointed.
If it's real, you'll both be able to say so out loud.
