OkCupid always tells both people for free when they Like each other. If she Liked you first, you get a pop-up when you Like her back, and if you Liked her first, you get a notification when she returns it. People who Like you also tend to show up sooner in your Discover, while the full list of everyone interested in you, called Interested in You, needs Premium.
What OkCupid tells you for free
You never pay to find out about mutual interest. OkCupid lets both people know when the Like goes both ways, and how you hear about it depends on who went first.
If she Liked you first and you then Like her, a pop-up appears. If you Liked her first, you get a notification once she Likes you back.
So a free account does show you who Likes you. It just shows you at the moment the interest becomes mutual, not before.
The Discover hint
There is a second free signal that many men miss. According to OkCupid, people who Like you tend to show up sooner in Discover.
That doesn't mean everyone near the front of your Discover has Liked you. It means the women who have are more likely to reach you early. So when you browse, the first women you see are worth a proper look, not a quick flick past.
Put the two free signals together and you have a simple method. Browse Discover regularly. Like the women you would genuinely be glad to take on a date. Some of them will already have Liked you, and those Likes turn into pop-ups.
What only Premium shows you
The complete picture is the paid part. OkCupid calls it Interested in You, it lists everyone who is interested in you, and it requires Premium.
That list saves time. Instead of browsing and waiting for pop-ups, you can go straight to the women who have already shown interest and decide who to answer. It is a convenience and a real advantage, but it is not the only way to find out who likes you.
Give women a reason to Like you
The free signals only help if women are Liking you in the first place, so look hard at what they see.
Your first photo decides whether a woman stops on you at all. Make it recent, sharp and well lit, with your face easy to make out and nobody else in the frame. Then give her something to read. On longer-form apps like OkCupid, a dating coach finds the written part carries more weight than it does on the quick-swipe apps. His own results jumped once he wrote with real opinions instead of trying to please everyone.
Intros help here as well. When you send a woman an Intro, OkCupid moves you toward the front of her Discover. A good message therefore puts you in front of exactly the women you most want to notice you.
Be picky with your Likes
The free method works best when your Likes mean something. Liking every woman in Discover in the hope of triggering pop-ups is a poor trade.
coach has coached plenty of men who showed interest in nearly everyone they saw. When they got choosier, they sent far fewer Likes and got far better results. Choosiness also protects your time. Every match you create is a conversation you then have to hold up, and a match you don't care about is one more chat you will let go stale.
Before you Like someone, look through all of her photos and read what she wrote. If you would be happy to sit across from her this week, Like her. If not, keep scrolling.
Make the pop-up count
A mutual Like is where the work starts, not where it ends. Plenty of men collect matches and then do nothing with them.
Write to her the same day. Keep the first message short, react to one specific thing on her page, and give her an easy way to answer. My aim with an opening line is to get attention first, because women online ignore far more men than they answer. A line about something she actually wrote stands out. "Hey" doesn't.
From there, his approach is to get from first message to number in four to seven messages. He brings up the idea of a drink early, as a playful suggestion, so that asking for her number later feels like the natural end of the conversation.
Is Premium worth it for the list alone?
My view on paid features is that they multiply the results you already have. They make a working setup work better, and they can't fix a setup that isn't working.
So look at what the free method gives you first. If mutual Likes are arriving and turning into conversations, Premium's full list can save you real time, and a month is a fair test. If pop-ups are rare, the list won't be long either, and your effort is better spent on better photos and a sharper write-up about yourself.
